Making use of NVMe drives

Post by Guy Rowland »

Thought this might be a useful thread to keep updated. The premise is simple enough - most sample-based products have greatly improved SSD performance over rust. But not all gain any additional benefit of NVMe over SSD, despite benchmarks being greatly increased. Note - not all NVMes are created equal, there can be almost 10x performance difference in benchmarks between models, and not all motherboards pass on the benefits. Here's my broad experience.

KONTAKT
Little to no benefit.

EAST WEST
I think there's been a significant improvement in Opus.

SPECTRASONICS
Definite improvement. Hardware-like responsiveness is possible with the fastest drives - it can seemingly make use of every drop of performance.

TOONTRACK
Definite improvement.

Others I'm not quite sure about such as Sine, Spitfire, VSL, Engine, UVI. Would be good to hear others' experiences.
