Impact Soundworks / Altera Keys

Impact Soundworks has released Altera Keys, a Kontakt-library that allows you to build your own electric pianos and/or hybrid instruments derived from sound sources that evoke various classic keyboards. To this end, Impact Soundworks has recreated (through synthesis & physical modelling) 20 classic ‘core’ keyboards (Rhodes, Clavinet, Wurlitzer, DX7, JD-800 and others), which can be used as they come, or parts of which can be chosen as layers for your own custom-built keyboard instrument. Endless possibilities.

Introduction price is $129, full price will be $149.
Compatible with Kontakt 7.8 Player.

How many recreations do we need? I think this territory is well covered by now…. apart from simply mangling ones own current libs with each other and use modulators of various sources…..

Nice that they do it, but needed?

Well I get the rationale - the thing here is the ability to take different parts of the sound from different instruments, and create unique combinations. And it sounds pretty good.

Whether its compelling enough for a purchase is something else again. In my case - well, I have Keyscape, which has 50 duo patches combining different keyboards, and Keyscape Creative - mangling the Keyscape library with the rest of Omnisphere - has 1,500 patches (and of course Omnisphere owners can roll their own).

That’s what I thought : having Keyscape and Omni, is it worth it ? Those not into it might, though.

Edit : listening to the demos, it’s defo not for me as I dislike these DX and JD digi keyz - sounds cheezy like hell, or heaven depending on your worship side.
