Native Instruments: Massive X released

From the NI Massive X Webpage:

Back in September we announced that MASSIVE X would arrive in February. Unfortunately, when building such a complex instrument, things can take longer than expected, so we’ve taken the difficult decision to delay the release until June.

When MASSIVE X arrives, we’re sure you’ll agree it’s been worth the wait. In the meantime, we’ll be releasing more details over the coming weeks, plus updates and inside info from the development team.

MASSIVE X will be available in June 2019. If you already own KOMPLETE 12, you’ll get MASSIVE X as a free download via Native Access. MASSIVE X is an addition to the MASSIVE family, and will exist side by side with the original instrument.

Ummm... it is in K12, added when released at no extra cost. K13 won't be released until 2020, most likely the autumn.

I have read a couple of reports of NI sending 50 euro vouchers to existing K12 owners to say sorry for the delay, but can't confirm that.

Just a double heads up - apparently release date is June 27, and one detail that's emerged that might affect some is that it needs AVX in the CPU to function. Everything from the past 7 or 8 years should have this pretty much, but looks to me like the one to watch out for is vintage cheesegrater Macs - this range apparently do not have AVX. Worth checking if you think you might be affected and Massive X is important to you.

Thanks Geoff. Had only the most cursary play (got a lot going on today)... very nice an all, but truth told I've yet to detect anything remarkably distinctive or new. CPU seems ok here though, I know there was a lot of fuss about how thirsty it would be.

Gee, I know this is heresy, but I really don't like anything I've heard much, either demos or playing around with it myself. It always sounds cold and hard to me (and sometimes hollow), and a skim though the expansions demo sounds the same. But literally everyone else on the planet loves it so my ears must be wonky. I, uh, feel much the same way about, um, err... shhh... Zebra. *bows head in shame*

MX can sound very very warm indeed. I mean it does have the Monark filter, specifically adjusted for polyphony... There's plenty of tricks up its sleeve, but even bog-standard wavetable playback sounds so lifelike and organic, for lack of better word. Mike Daliot worked his magic in this one for sure.

Yes fully agree on that Mario. Have been working with Massive X for both a composing project and for a set for Triple Spiral Audio and I really start to fall in love with the sound. Don't know the correct words either, but I second what you said, lifelike and organic. The is also a lot of subtle depth in the sounds, while I thought at first it was just a great tool to make "nasty" sounds, but I am more and more working towards more subtle sounds with it.
