Native Instruments TRK-01 Play: Free for the holidays

Post by Guy Rowland »

Native instruments are giving away a version of their recently released TRK-01 drum and bass plugin. IIRC, you can't actually play this on a keyboard* (!), so it might be of limited interest here, but if you wanna get your DJ on, here you go.

*EDIT - this is rubbish. I've just tried it, and you can play it. Fancy that!
*EDIT 2 - Apparently TRK-01 full has an internal sequencer and you can't just play it with a keyboard. These are just 2 simple plugins that do work with a keyboard - one does kick, one does bass. Fully programmable.

There's also a $22 voucher and a competition:

...just to complete the EDIT info above, on release the full TRK-01 did not have the ability to be played from a midi keyboard. Since then there has been an update, which means you can. Small detail like the ability to play the thing... anyway, this Play version is as the name suggests playable, lacks the sequencer and some of the effects of its big brother.

These are pretty nice. The Kick plugin has infinite design possibilities, but imo it's of limited use unless you're just working on a simple 4 to the floor kinda thing - it would be a real pain for me to have a separate VI for me just for the kick. But the bass synth is pretty damn good, can handle a wide range of analogue and digital tones.
