I assume this looks "epic" to laypeople.... but I couldn't help busting a laugh at this guy nearly spraining his fingers "playing" one-shot, one-layer samples.

I was going to say the same thing - except I'd probably say I enjoyed it more!FriFlo wrote:I enjoyed it as much as listening to (most) trailers these days ...
Actually, most Trailer music is as comedic to me as this video. :-) Lately, I counted the whooshes in one 2.5 minute trailer (not even an action flick, but a children's movie) for my wife and it was something like 17, which really surprised her and made her laugh listening to it once more. People (non-musicians and maybe some trailer composers) seem to have lost a feel for decent usage of effects. They just don't notice it, but when you point them at it, they realize how ridiculous it has become ...byzantium wrote:I was going to say the same thing - except I'd probably say I enjoyed it more!FriFlo wrote:I enjoyed it as much as listening to (most) trailers these days ...
I know, it's ridiculous. At my last time at the cinema (quite a while back I hate to admit) there were 4 or 5 trailers in a row that were pretty much identical to each other - regardless of content - ridiculous over-the-top bombastic effects at enormous volume and the same old boring one-note/one-finger drones and big drums and synths and whooshes and risers and braaaams, and big long production build-ups etc etc etc. (If Zimmer didn't do it, I guess someone else would have). I know there's money to be made no doubt in this kind of trailer music but I couldn't do it / stick it to save my life...FriFlo wrote:Actually, most Trailer music is as comedic to me as this video. :-) Lately, I counted the whooshes...

I'm also not much of a fan of threads about trailer music always being mostly people saying they don't like trailer music.

Oh lord, let's not rise / stoop to this here.Ashermusic wrote:Maybe, just maybe, because most of us are musicians and actually care about it as music, not just a commercial means to an end?
Or not.
Never said differently nor am I looking to impose my taste on anyone else. We all like what we like. But surely we are free to also say what we don't like, why we don't like it, and why we think others also may not, right?Guy Rowland wrote:Ashermusic wrote:Maybe, just maybe, because most of us are musicians and actually care about it as music, not just a commercial means to an end?

One of the things I love about this place, is that it doesn't impose musical values on its members. If you love hybrid music, good for you. No, its not the same as Beethoven, nor is Kraftwerk and nor are the Arctic Monkeys.
