Matt Lane's StereoDelta / spatial stereo-processor

Post by Piet De Ridder »

Matthew Lane, the man behind the acclaimed DrMS plugin, has released StereoDelta, a single-knob spatial stereo-tool based on the algorithms ofDrMS.

"Some might find the power of the critically acclaimed DrMS plug-in a bit overwhelming. This is where StereoDelta comes in: one knob controls several parameters of the advanced DrMS algorithm inside at once. Well chosen internal parameter combinations make StereoDelta a flexible and creative tool for instant high quality useful and unique results.

StereoDelta’s single control knob goes from true mono fold down (save all stereo info into mono!) at the left of its range, over your original stereo at 12 o’clock, into 3D expanded stereo to the right. StereoDelta’s DrMS style widening does not only make your soundstage wider, but also deeper, more open, more real. And always with the confidence of mono compatibility.

StereoDelta spatial processor features:
- Native AAX64, AU, VST, VST3 32 & 64 bit plug-in for OSX & Windows
- Spatial audio processing based on the acclaimed DrMS plug-in
- From true mono folddown - save stereo info in mono! - to larger then life stereo with one simple turn
- Full mono compatibility
- Internal Autogain circuit for constant output level"

Piet, do I disremember or have you commented somewhat skeptically about stereo enhancers in the past? Is there something particular to this one?

Larry, I can’t recall anything like that. I do recall being skeptical — very skeptical — about tape simulators, hardware emulators, the applying-of-orchestration-techniques-for real-orchestras-to-the-virtual-orchestra, any software or production technique that claims to be able to increase the realism in samples, and loads of other stuff, but I don’t remember ever having said anything dismissive about stereo enhancers.
Not that I think they’re essential or even necessary, but when used wisely, they can defenitely make something that sounds good sound even better.

Haven’t tried this particular one yet, I’m afraid, but only because I have the DrMS — discussed here — from which this StereoDelta appears to have been derived.
