The last reverb I bought, after I swore I would never buy another, was the Savant Audio Lab Quantum 2772 Evolution, which is I understand a version of a Quantec Yardstick and it’s really good, very transparent and doesn’t muddy things up in dense arrangements the way a lot reverbs do.
Now they have the Quantum Room Simulator, again, in my understanding based on a different generation of Quantec Yardstick popularized by Peter Gabriel.
Well wouldn’t you know plug-ins of both Quantec Room Simulator and earlier Yardstick are now part of the latest Logic Pro 11 update and so far, I am not hearing qualitative difference.
Piet?

Re: QRS Room Simulator and Yardstick reverb plugins
I haven’t compared them yet, Jay — I haven’t even used the Logic one I must admit, apart from quickly checking it out after updating — and I’ve also never worked with the original hardware, so I don’t know if I’m qualified to comment. From what I understand, Apple were able to built their QRS plug-ins around the original algorithms — the genuine stuff — so on paper, the Logic plug-ins should have the edge over the competition when it comes to authenticity. But again, I couldn’t tell if Apple succeeded or not. I did read some comments from people who appear to know more about this than I do, and their opinions are certainly very positive.
And yes, I also enjoy these QRS-based or -inspired reverbs, for much the same reason as you describe.

Understood. I actually used the hardware on two occasions, but that was a hundred years ago when I wasn’t paying a lot of attention to what my engineers were doing.Piet De Ridder wrote: ↑Nov 30, 2024 4:31 pm I haven’t compared them yet, Jay — I haven’t even used the Logic one I must admit, apart from quickly checking it out after updating — and I’ve also never worked with the original hardware, so I don’t know if I’m qualified to comment. So I just wonder, since you have such amazing ears, if you hear much difference between the plugins.

I don't own Logic, so I can't answer the question directly, but I can say that I find the Savant Audio Labs reverbs to be true to the models they are emulating. Exact doesn't really exist, but they work really well in a variety of settings. Won't toss my 480, but I do like them a lot.
