I think it's very good.

If you like the sound of Teldex, it is very good. I find the layout and use logical and easy. Placing totally dry sources in it is rather trivial and gives a great starting point. Massaging the mic positions to get the exact blend you want is a great bonus, so the concept in my opinion works very well.

The presets are useful, but I don't adhere to them religiously; rather, I place whatever instruments at the distance I need them to be in order to match whatever I've got going on with other tracks in terms of space. But then again, I've stop being to fastidious about spatial placement. I think getting close enough is now good enough, considering the many other shortcomings of making music the way I do.

It's one of those plugins that very fast become a goto without thinking very much about it.
Need a room for a dry instrument? Throw Berlin Studio at it and adjust to taste. Simple as that. For me at least. Not much not to like about it.

Larry, there's a demo available for 14 days. Should be plenty of time to give it a spin and decide if it's for you. Also, asking this question over at VI-C might yield more opinions.

I'm currently testing Ambiente by SWAM Instruments. First time I loaded it, I wasn't at all enamored with the sound. But I just tried it over an entire Crooner mix last night and I'm not disliking the results. It doesn't hold a candle to SPAT, but I'll keep demoing it on a few things to decide.

I use Berlin as my go-to hall for dry instruments - works really nicely so I've been very happy with it. Worth demoing at least.

Interesting to see Spitfire release AIR Essentials at 99e .. seems to do a similar job to Berlin but using Air. Might be interesting.

Ambiente looks like an updated VSS2. I would be interested in trying that out.

Definitely some interesting reverbs/spatializing plugs coming out. I’d be interested in checking out Ambiente, especially because it comes from AudioModeling-I’d definitely try it on AM/SM instruments. I don’t think there’s a trial period though.

Luke, I’d love to hear it on your crooner piece, as I’ve written a lot of crooner stuff.
