VSL VI range reaches end of life

Post by Guy Rowland »

The silent stage is about to go silent, and there's a 50% off sale to mark the occasion.
As we approach the end of our VI Series products’ life cycle, we’d like to give you a heads-up and enough time to prepare. We’d also like to give you an opportunity to stock up on VI Series products at half their price, knowing that crossgrading to the corresponding SYNCHRON-ized products during this sale or in the future will be a cost-saving way to move your instruments to the Synchron Player and benefit from an improved, enhanced, and oftentimes expanded sample database.

Log in to display your personal crossgrade prices to all SYNCHRON-ized Libraries! Remember, when you’re completing a Bundle, you’re getting a hefty bundle discount on top of the promo price!

Products that are currently not available as SYNCHRON-ized versions (Brass, Orchestral Strings, Jazz Drums) will be ready when their VI Series counterparts are discontinued.

On October 1, 2024, all VI Series products including Single Instruments, Collections, Bundles, the VI Special Editions and the MIRx Reverb Expansions will be discontinued. Of course you can continue using these products for a long time. We will support the Vienna Instruments Pro player at least through the end of 2025.

It was bound to happen sooner or later. On several occasions VSL have said that they will not abandon their VI series. With the port to the Synchron Player ('Synchron-ize') they are keeping that promise, sort of. I am a bit sad to see the VI Player go. I find it easier to work with than the Synchron Player. But I understand that keeping two proprietary players afloat is too much in this industry. Most developers have more than enough to do to get one player up and running.

What will happen to the Silent Stage? Will it be decommissioned? It looks like recording in an ambient hall is now the future for VSL. Until the Synchron series is finished. Then maybe modelling? VSL is being forward thinking about all this. Still, it's a part of sampling history that will become defunct at the end of next year.

I’m wondering if Solo Strings 1 might be worth the discounted price.

I have Special Edition Vol 1, and Epic Orchestra (which came with VEPro). I really like them, and have considered expanding on them, but the cost was just too high considering other libraries I have that cover the same ground (just differently <G>).

Now I'm not so sure, I may splurge and pick up Special Edition Vol 2 and the extended versions for volumes 1 & 2. I can't see me getting much use from the other volumes, well maybe volume 4?

These libraries have a very different workflow, it isn't bad, it is a little complex to learn, and you can get some really good results.

Still, I have every one of these areas covered already, usually more than once. Makes it difficult.
