NI Action Strings 2.2 update

Post by Guy Rowland »

It's relatively unusual to get a significant update on Komplete products, so this is good to see from Sonuscore on a 4 year old library. Action Strings 2 always was very well conceived, and it can do the fast blurry stuff as well better than anything else I've heard.

However, two important BUTs. The string size is pretty small and well defined. I was hoping therefore to use the midi drag and drop so I could copy it to the DAW to layer with something else. When I tried this the first time, the midi data didn't match up at all with what I'd recorded, it all somehow jumbled up. I redid it a few times with the same outcome. It doesn't take much experience like that to make me forget the library and look elsewhere. However with a little time on my hands, when I changed patterns everything worked smoothly from then on, and layering some stage and surround mics from Cinestrings helped fill things out. The audio is considerably behind the beat so I had to pull back the midi delay significantly.

The other important BUT is that, unlike what it says on Sonuscore's website, this update breaks compatibility with Kontakt 6. Once updated, it only loaded in Kontakt 7 even though the library itself still showed up in 6.

Thanks for the heads up, Guy!

Even though I have Kontakt 7 installed, I rarely use it. I'm going to mull this over before updating Action Strings.

Best,

Geoff

I wish Kontakt had folders on the side panel. That way I could put all my guitars in one panel, all my strings in one panel, etc etc. Tidy things up a bit, save all the scrolling.
Be an upstander.

Yeah, it does get unweildy. Still better than the horrible full screen browser.

Quick Load is basic but good, I have some good folder action going on down there.
