Hi there. I figured there must be some on here who share my love for Xsample woodwind samples.

Just to let you know, I have posted some information about a flash sale on the woodwinds. 14 instruments as a bundle for EUR 162 (great value). Instruments are also sold separately.

Too well hidden, Temme. Didn’t know anything about it. And now it’s too late because I spent whatever money I’m still willing to spend, on other stuff: patch cables for the Matriarch and the Neutron, a Jaspers keyboard stand and the Oeser from your fellow countrymen Key Instruments.

As you may recall from older VI-threads, I certainly don’t need convincing of the quality and appeal of the XSample instruments, been using them since their Giga- and Akai incarnations. That said, I also always hoped that Hans Josef would one day team up with a serious Kontakt programmer and a gifted, tasteful and skilled graphic designer. Because while the sample content of these libraries is great, no doubt about that, most everything else often tends to make working with these instruments more of a chore than a joy. In my experience anyway.

Piet, I couldn’t agree more. We need that guy who designed your kitchen and hook him up with Hans Josef. Wait… ;-)

The Matriarch hasn’t arrived yet. Late May, early June, they say. So at the moment I’m splashing about, excited as only a child can be, in the more shallow end of the semi-modular pool with the Neutron. Well, I say ‘shallow’, but the Neutron is a universe of sound onto itself as well. Sensational synth. (And I meanwhile also learned that the headphone jack of the iPad can act as sort of CV-output, which means that clever, creative app designers have come up with various iPad-expansions for (semi-)modular hardware. Amazing, wonderful stuff.)

As you are well aware, I am a synth addict first and foremost. And the Neutron has been on my radar… very tempting synthesizer indeed…

I wouldn’t hesitate if I were you, Temme, synth addict as indeed I know you are. The more so because the Neutrons seem to become increasingly difficult to order (although that might be just a temporary shortage). I bought mine at bol.com, but a few days after I placed my order, the synth had disappeared from bol.com’s available products. Thomann (who pride themselves on having everything) doesn’t carry it either at the moment. “Available again in several months” they say. According to their website, Bax-shop still has one or more items in stock, but it remains to be seen if that is actually true. If they update their website, we could well find they no longer have any Neutrons either.

And there’s no doubt in my mind that, despite its insanely low price (€300 or thereabouts), the Neutron will, in time, be looked at as a minor classic, not very different from how we now look at the classic synths from the 70’s and 80’s. In fact, it seems to have acquired that status already, judging by how people (even those who usually mock everything that has the name Behringer on it) talk about this little jewel of a synth.

You are absolutely right, I am trying to hunt one down this weekend! Thanks for the warning - I wasn’t aware of the low price nor of the scarcity! Much appreciated
