VSL Synchron Prime Edition

Post by Guy Rowland »

A new all-in-one orchestra from VSL based on their Synchron series. Articulations and mic positions are considerably reduced from the full versions, but IMO they've made very wise choices - 2 mic positions CLOSE and ROOM (99% of the time all anyone really needs imo), and here is a list of the strings articulations to get a feel:

Instruments: 1st violins (14), 2nd violins (10), violas (8), cellos (8), double basses (6)
Section and "tutti" Presets
Staccato bold and agile
Long notes with normal and soft attack and release; tremolo crossfading option
Marcato/sforzato
Legato with normal and soft attack and release, and with marcato starting notes
Sforzato; tremolo crossfading option
Tremolo; marcato crossfading option
Pizzicato and snap pizzicato
Portamento with normal and soft attack and release, and with marcato starting notes

Price is 595 euros RRP, intro at 445, various crossgrade options for those who already own part of the library.

The biggest competitor for this currently I'd say was East West. IMO Spitfire, Orchestral Tools and CineSamples need to have their own versions of this for serious newcomers.

Seems pretty comprehensive for the price. I wonder about the omission of marimba and harp glisses.
