I'm probably just grumpy this morning (it was 4 degrees outside when I woke up), but I really am tired of companies telling us that they will tell us something exciting in a few days. I've grown to expect that from Spitfire and Orchestral Tool, but I did not expect Cinesamples to follow suit.

The big announcements are always entertaining, and interesting, even if I do not have an interest in whatever they are shilling.

Looks like a subscription cloud player. With no controls... except a reverb send.

Um....

Yeah, it looks like it is nowhere as usable as the Kontakt versions of their libraries at this point. Kind of like Sine with the shop and browser taking huge bits of the UI and even less to set up and control regarding the real instruments. But to be fair: if you watch the video it is only announced as a free beta to participate in. So, this is only the beginning. Let's see where this gets them in three years and then compare it to the other companies that abandoned Kontakt.

I think it's an overall positive development that companies are abandoning Kontakt, as long as the new alternatives are reliable & stable.

They didn't show an instrument control GUI and they've said on VIC that this downloads a different set of samples from the Kontakt versions - they don't share samples. That makes me suspect this is kind of a "Berlin Inspire" sort of software. Perhaps the MUSIO catalog has very boiled down versions of their instruments you can download and use quickly, and then the Kontakt versions are the deep sampled ones? Who knows..

It’s hard to see it any other way, IMO. They’ve said the Kontakt range is continuing, and there are NO CONTROLS except reverb-send in Musio (still can’t quite get over this). No mic positions, no nothing. So we know pretty much for sure it’s a single mic position , and I wouldn’t be surprised if there were less velocity layers and so on to keep that download size low. They say they can record in the morning, edit in the afternoon and upload in the evening. Well… maybe with one velocity layer and mic position they really can.

Well, those marketing slogans always invite one some a bit of satire, don't they?
