Orchestral Tools is doing 50% OFF the Berlin Series MAIN Collections + Berlin Symphonic Strings. (Sorry Tobias, corrected!)

A few days ago I grabbed Performance Samples Vista for sale - the deal was supposed to expire on 11 Nov, but the deal I think lasted through 15 Nov or so. It's unfortunately gone now.

I complained about the SM to AM saxes cross grade price for YEARS. They finally caved and offered a reasonable price (it wasn’t nothing, it was around $100 I think.) I don’t do a lot of that, but sometimes it just feels unfair. I understood that they had split into two companies but it was essentially the same product with a few tweaks.

Back to topic-Berlin strings are at a more reasonable price at 50%. I remember thinking that they sounded great when they first came out-any thoughts from owners? (Feel free to move to another thread.)

Funny! I got an upgrade offer from the SM right away when they started the company upon asking. No complaining, just asking!

KV331 Synthmaster series is ~70% OFF. It's a ROMpler, but one of the better general purpose synth ROMplers around if you need some underscore or not too in-your-face synths.
https://www.synthmaster.com/index.aspx

XLN Audio (Addictive Drums etc) is doing all products 50% OFF.
https://www.xlnaudio.com/

Soundtoys is ~70% OFF (Decapitator is still my fave pre-amp simulator!)

Blimey, XO is 65 euros. It's not possible to have that much fun with 65 euros in any other way.

Legally, I mean.

EDIT - holy moly, $53.76 at jrrshop using coupon code "Group".

I couldn’t have said it better myself, Guy. That’s a great deal on a great plugin!

Just wanted to correct this: it is 50% off the Berlin Series MAIN Collections + Berlin Symphonic Strings, not the complete Berlin Series!

Not a fan of Radiator or Decapitator (just not my thing), but the rest of them are remarkable. They sound great using the presets, and if you get into editing you can probably do anything you like. After much tweaking (and banging my head on the table) I managed to come up with a delay that is much like the Echorec in function, just not quite the same in sound. If I were to work a little more I might slay that dragon as well<G>.

I simply can not recommend SoundToys highly enough.

Zynaptiq have their repair series on sale - UNCHIRP, UNFILTER and UNVIEL, for $149 each, or $399 for all three.
https://www.zynaptiq.com/current-promotions/ and resellers.

Unveil was a wonder when it was released, but honestly it's been eclipsed now, significantly for dialogue by RX's Dialogue De-Reverb. Unfilter simply didn't do what it claimed to when I demoed it. Unchirp, however, is something unique and may yet suck me in. It works pretty well at reducing those poor quality lossy artefacts. Pretty well, but not totally miraculous I think would be a fair summary.

Is that part of one of the pro versions? I have little old V9 plain and I prefer Unveil to the RX deverb stuff. Now I don't often need to deverb dialog, so that might be the thing!

I don't use unfilter as an unfilter, more as a very gentle filter.

Oh, yes it is Advanced only - forgot that. Not wanting to over-big it up, but it is INCREDIBLE. It finally did what de-reverb technology always promised but never quite delivered. And it's easy too, one click and done. Unveil is like working a Moog Modular. But, as the name implies, it really is dialogue - or vocal - only.

Between Unveil and regular RX De-Reverb, it's a tough one to call imo. I find each works better on some material, and worse on others. Overall neither perform all that well.

I've got XO as per Guy and Geoff's reactions and holy cow.

It's literally the combination of the best sample browser I've ever seen and one of the best rhythm machines I've ever tried. Please, grab this one. I'm also very happy that it loads Ogg files, not just usual wav/aif.

I also got XO (plus some expansions for AD2). It sure looks like fun! The only thing that I missed in the short time I had to demo it was more possibilities of manipulating the samples. E.g. I didn’t find basic stuff like pitch envelope. Maybe I just overlooked it. Or maybe this is just not the kind of plug-in I though it was. Does it replace Battery for you? Right now, I don’t think it could. What is its purpose then?

AFAIK modulating in XO is not as deep as Battery. The main appeal of XO is that you can scan the whole samples folder you have and it automatically sorts the content based on the tone/style/whatever of each samples.

From what I tested, the accuracy is more than decent (it can distinguish between kicks/snares/hats/claps/crashes and misc one shots) and automatically morphs the presets/current settings based on similarity. It's really fun to mess with, and will be very helpful when you are looking for a new (dance) drumkit.

XO really excels at breadth more than depth. I love how it wrangles almost all of your drum samples into one easily accessible place.

If you like depth, you might want to check out Sonic Academy’s Kick 2. It’s currently 40% off.

Best,

Geoff

Yes FriFlo, what Stakk and Geoff said. Battery definitely has the edge for manipulation. But the sheer fact I have.... [checks]... 82,767 of my samples here means that I don't need to manipulate stuff all that much, to be honest....

I also have mapped on individual outs to Cubase, and that's quite handy to be able to use any of my own plugins on anything very simply.

That does explain things - thanks! I have had occasion, in the past, to clean up dialog, but mostly I do the music and sfx and leave the rest to others<G>.
Guy Rowland wrote: Between Unveil and regular RX De-Reverb, it's a tough one to call imo. I find each works better on some material, and worse on others. Overall neither perform all that well.
I have not yet tried RX9 Standard, but for me Unveil was a clear "winner" when compared to the results with RX8.

Now in fairness, I may be using it much differently than most? I use it to clean up old recordings. Also to be fair, I've been using Unveil almost since it was released, and at this point I have pretty good idea of what I can fix, and what I can't, and I am comfortable with their rather strange choice of controls. If I become as familiar with RX9 maybe things will change?

A thought - I have, somewhere, a particularly nasty bit of dialog, probably less than 15 seconds worth. They shot the entire film outside except for the closing scene, which was shot in an empty high school hallway. You get the idea<G>.

As I type I realize that I do have a tendency to stick with tools I know. I used the Sony/SF Noise Reduction plugin for a very long time - mostly because I could get it really close with no effort at all. Laziness and cheapness are an interesting combination.
