Seemingly everyone's favourite little interface, the Babyface has had yet another update, adding an FS at the end (which I guess recent purchases of the Pro will assume stands for "F's sake").
Here's the list of changes:
+19 / +4 dBu switch on the bottom adds a direct way to reduce the output level, thus improves SNR for sensitive active monitors, avoids distortion / overload, and helps to keep TotalMix FX faders near 0 dB instead of high attenuations.
Full SteadyClock FS circuit as in the ADI-2 Pro FS for lowest jitter and highest jitter immunity.
3.5 mm TRS phones output power rises from 70 mW to 90 mW. THD of both phones outputs improved by up to 10 dB. Uses same output op-amps as ADI-2 Pro now. Output impedance of 3.5 mm TRS lowered from 2 Ohms to 0.1 Ohms.
Mic inputs SNR improved from 112.2 dB to 113.7 dB, TRS Line inputs SNR improved from 114 dB to 116.3 dB (120 dBA). THD Line inputs improved by 8 dB.
6 samples less latency on the AD side by new ADC (5 samples AD, 7 samples DA. It won't get quicker...).
All the above improvements were achieved without raising the units power consumption.
K-slot for theft protection.
Apparently available end of November, UK Price is £675 inc VAT.

OK. That one left me in stitches! Good one.Guy Rowland wrote: ↑Nov 19, 2019 4:36 am which I guess recent purchases of the Pro will assume stands for "F's sake"
Apart from that, looks like a pretty great update. I might get one for when I travel (even though that is rare) to go along with my Surface...

Re: RME Babyface Pro FS
I love my current Babyface Pro, and I've been contemplating a new interface for my piano area which currently uses a FastTrack C400, which while ok really isn't all that it might be in terms of stability. It's difficult to justify such an expensive interface, but they're so damn good I'm tempted by the thought of an upgrade-and-hand-me-down.
Still USB 2.0 though! I wonder if they moved to USB 3.0 if they would still need to progressively drop the number of ADAT channels going from 48kHz to 96kHz to 192kHz.

Re: RME Babyface Pro FS
This is not up to USB 2 or 3. It's ADAT itself. When you have one ADAT port, it supports 8 channels of audio at 44.1/48k. Then there's something called S/MUX 2 or 4 mode for ADAT lightpipe, which multiplexes higher sample rates at the cost of less channels used.
