Anyone updated to version 7 yet? I've always only used the basic version, but am considering upgrading to Advanced so am looking for any input anyone cares to offer.

I updated immediately, yeah. Ozone 6 was a great workflow improvement for me (separating mastering from mixing using the standalone app), and 7 brings two major things that I was interested in.
The first was the codec preview, which is especially helpful for those of us mastering for iOS games, where optimizing for shitty listening environments is critical. The second was the new Maximizer algorithm. I've always loved the way the Ozone Maximizer behaves, especially for electronic material.
One request that I've made so far is that they bring some of the old Vinyl effect's capabilities back in their new Vintage Tape module. The ability to introduce wow/flutter, adjust tape wear, noise, etc. would be great.
I think there's a lot of value in the Ozone package, but it depends a lot on what you already own. There can be a bunch of overlap with things you already use.

Oop, meant to reply to this. I'm new to Ozone at #7, so can't compare with earlier versions. As a piece of software its quite wonderful, love the workflow and especially the ability to A/B with the original VOLUME COMPENSATED, which is the biggest deal in the world. I'm not quite so euphoric about the plugins themselves yet - not that they are bad at all, but have some really beloved versions of the most important stuff which it doesn't outshine.
The codec thing is really interesting from an educational standpoint ("JEEPERS! Listen to how much gets JUNKED!) but I'm not sure how useful it is in practice - there's not much you can do to compensate for shite lossy compression after all if that's what gets used somewhere.

I use it almost exclusively outside the DAW, yes.

Occasionally, but most times I use it inside Cubase. Don't forget too it has many more uses than just for mastering, so it can be used on individual audio tracks as well.Aesthete wrote:Just getting to Ozone 7 Adv. this week. What a beautiful thing.

I occasionally use the odd plugin elsewhere, most of it is standalone. Love that app, it's really well designed IMO. Oh, except I wish there was an easy way to just update the track in a project - if you remix something but want the same mastering chain, you can either name it the same and replace it in the project's import folder, or save the Ozone preset and set up a new project using that preset. I recently updated from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion and immediately lost Vinyl, which is 32 bit I guess. Does Trash cover Vinyl's ground? I miss it already.

Does Vinyl not work in VEP 32 bit ? You could always try 99 Lives, 32 Bit to 64 bit wrapper. I use it with my old Abbey Road Plugs, Bobby Nathan's URS stuff, some old obsolete shit like PlastiCZ, ProSoloVST, and Vinyl. Works like a charm and there is a free trial. http://www.soundradix.com/products/32-lives/
I do not think Trash has Vinyl's features. I use Decapitator.

James- vinyl might work in VEP 32, but I like it on vocals and would rather not have to put vocals through VEP.
The 99 lives thing looks great, but sadly it seems it's only for AU plugins, which Cubase doesn't recognize.
Btw- my first "pro" pop demos were done at Bobby Nathan's studio, Unique, in 1980. Haven't heard his name for a while.

Larry, sometimes we just have to blow taps for older non supported plugins. But if you write Izotope support perhaps they can implement some of it's features in a future product ? Seeing it was a freebie I doubt they would port it to 64 bit.
I cut my teeth at Unique and helped design and run the Midi room. Never forget the day Jason Miles brought Miles in and after showing them some stuff he gave me a compliment. Dan Hartman was a great guy, Stevie Winwood, Brian Eno, Lord-Alge, some great memories. The problem back then like many studios was guys would come in and do a session with record company money, and learn as much as they could then go to Manny's or Sam Ash and build a home studio so they could record at home.

I think Bobby and Joanne divorced? I know he lost a lot of weight and started URS, but that was the last I knew.
Bobby was a piece of work. How was he to work for/with for you? Man, I used to spend a lot of time in Midtown West studios- almost all gone now. Power Station, which became Avatar, is one of the last ones- that building is for sale...

I kept an older version of Sound Forge (V9) specifically to use a handful of x86 plugins, Vinyl included. One of these days I'll have to give up Sound Forge V9 I suppose, and that may be the end of that. Which will stink!
I've lost plugins to the relentless advances of personal computing, and to mis-management, hostile take-overs, and so on. I don't like it, but at this point I've learned to accept it, and use the tools for as long as I can. Wizzo Verb was brilliant, but I can't get a license file, and I doubt it would work well anyway. Alchemy, well that could be the program that pushes me over the edge to get a Mac Mini!

Hey guys, I will PM you about Bobby.
Bill, I was the kid in the Ramones T shirts, Chuck Taylors, and Kangol cap. I might of been running or at AES the days your came by. I ran sound in those days for $20 a night (plus cranberry juice) the days the studio was not booked.
