iZotope acquire Exponential Audio

Post by Guy Rowland »

https://www.izotope.com/en/products/exp ... io-reverbs

30% off and some bundle deals. I notice that unlike other iZotope products, the reverbs are iLok only, and I presume just single-authorization.

not sure what to make of this.

I finally updated Ozone 5 a couple days ago, still using RX 5. I like their products, but I find that marketing to be a bit insulting, and their upgrades to lack sufficient value for the price tag. I was really quite happy with the three plugins that came bundled with some ancient version of Sound Forge, they sounded glorious! Alas they were x86 only, and that was getting a bit old. So I upgraded to V5 and was quite happy with that for a long time. There are a couple features in 8 from which I think I might get some use, so another upgrade. There is nothing - yet - to convince me to upgrade to the current version of RX - then again I am doing a LOT less recovery work these days.

On the other hand we have Exponential, who offered upgrades at prices that I thought were probably on the low side. And his marketing was, I thought, appropriate if not erring on the side of humble. I love R4, Nimbus, and Excalibur - all fantastic tools. Stratus and Symphony look equally appealing, but I do no surround work, so they would be lost on me, maybe?

My hope is that Michael receives all the support he needs to create new tools, and enjoy himself in the process. I hope that iZotope benefits from the partnership too. They are some really smart people, and I've had friends who worked there (no, there were no discounts, I was disappointed<G>!) and by all accounts it is a great place to work.

It will be interesting!

My guess is that Michael was searching for a retirement plan, no bad idea.

Damn ... where has that Bricasti remote plugin gone? I wanted to buy that for my Bricasti along with some reverbs and now it's gone ...

I have a retirement plan-to work until I'm dead. So far it's going splendidly :)

If one has the complete Ozone 7 as I do, it it possible to upgrade one piece (RX) to the latest?

It’s a great plugin. Works flawlessly with the Bricasti. I’m sure if you email him he can help you with that. But this brings up a concern. How long will the plugin remain stable within the DAW after multiple updates/upgrades, etc?
-Disclaimer: I have received free libraries from East West and several others. Don’t shoot me.

I guess that is the retirement plan for most people living of music ... not for people living of musicians ... ;-)

Yeah, that is why it is a bummer to see it gone ... I suppose Casey from Bricasti had a friendship deal which is no longer valid as the company got sold. I emailed isotope support, so, let's see, if they have something to say about it.

Ok, I got an official response. Exponential Audio discontinued the plugin a while ago and iZotope is gonna continue supporting it for existing customers "for the time being". Damn! No luck for me ...
