Orchestral Tools: Metropolis Ark 1
Re: Orchestral Tools: Metropolis Ark 1
If you write some epic music that stinks, you could combine the two...,

OMFG! I wouldn't even know how to not buy it ... at first, I was pissed of, that they would have another big release before Berlin Brass. But this is simply to good in my ears and I don't even like epic ...

Happy to admit I got sucked in
Re: Orchestral Tools: Metropolis Ark 1
Whoa, I shouldn't have watched that. Very impressive.
Re: Orchestral Tools: Metropolis Ark 1
Makes me nod to my impulse buying when I heard 'born to protect' from Benny.
Re: Orchestral Tools: Metropolis Ark 1
I pre-ordered, with some trepidation. I heard some editing in the walk through that sounded a bit suspect, and I'm not sure I understand the legato. The trumpet longs didn't sound great to me though the short trumpets sounded awesome. I hope it's not a huge CPU sucker in general. My need for a contrabassoon ensemble is quite limited.
However, the power and fidelity of the low strings and low brass are unquestionable, and they sucked me right in. The choir sounds quite good. Some of the high string arts sound gorgeous. Overall, I think it will be good value.

Oddly enough. The more I hear of it, the less I think "that's something I can't already do". Gonna pass... for now.

Pre-ordered. It was hard to resist. Thankfully I didn't buy anything from black friday sales.

Re: Orchestral Tools: Metropolis Ark 1
Well it's release day, so here's my take on it, in three different videos.
A 10 minute smash-through, for those who just want a broad feel for the scope of the library / can't be doing with all the long-form jibber jabber:
Then there's two more in depth videos, the first looking at the strings, winds and brass:
...and the second looking at the non-orchestral stuff, plus the percussion

Great stuff, Guy! Did you get an early copy for evaluation?

Re: Orchestral Tools: Metropolis Ark 1
Big thanks to Guy for the nice videos!!!
Re: Orchestral Tools: Metropolis Ark 1
Those are some very thorough walkthroughs, great job Guy. I was on the fence but I think I have to get it, especially with the pre-order pricing.
Re: Orchestral Tools: Metropolis Ark 1
Good job with those videos, Guy - it really helped me decide that this library had some gems in it that I don't have elsewhere! Thank you.

Very helpful, confirms all my original assumptions.i won't spend the money now because I don't get hired much for bombastic but they day I do I will be on this like white on rice. Sounds just great!

My computer is huffing and puffing and panting after a mega-epic 75 gigabytes download ... Anyway, it's all hauled in, and ready to be explored!

I haven't even started attempting it yet, though I may let it fly over the weekend. One disadvantage of a shared studio space like mine is that hogging bandwidth is not really cricket. I assume it's an interruptable dl?

Yes, with Continuata you can pause / restart any time.Lawrence wrote:I haven't even started attempting it yet, though I may let it fly over the weekend. One disadvantage of a shared studio space like mine is that hogging bandwidth is not really cricket. I assume it's an interruptable dl?

Re: Orchestral Tools: Metropolis Ark 1
Why do I fire up EWQLSO all mics blazing and think ' hey! what's wrong with this old library'?
and yes, I also have the choirs.
Sad ol' fart here. I've money to spend but not on this.

@ Ray
EWQLSO sounds great.
I've managed to resist this OT library. I was drawn in mostly by the choir, but I think I'd be better off getting a dedicated choir library as that's something I don't have.

Re: Orchestral Tools: Metropolis Ark 1
I love EWQLSO to this day and still use parts of it. I miss legato when trying to write evocatively, especially on solo instruments. It can sound robotic on repetitive phrases due to lack of RRs and velocity layering. Still, there are great things in there.Raymond_Kemp wrote:Why do I fire up EWQLSO all mics blazing and think ' hey! what's wrong with this old library'?
