CineWinds v1.2 Released

Post by Marius »

They've re-done the sample de-noising, added some clever scripting (chord arranger), included some terrific sounding ensemble patches, and made it Kontakt Player compatible. Costs $29 to update.

I'm downloading my copy now and will post some impressions after I've had a chance to install it...the downloader is being very slow so I'm guessing they're dealing with a lot of upgraders.

I'm downloading at the moment too. The ensemble patches are sounding nice.
I haven't used Cinewinds that much recently as all the noise was driving me nuts. Hoping that's all sorted now.

Downloaded and having a quick play around with it. Listening to the flute I can hear a bit too much of the noise reduction.
Am I imagining it? My slave is switched off for the night so I haven't compared old and new yet. Might do that tomorrow if I have time.

Here's a sample of the flutes with no other processing, just a dry wav.

I've been able to have a play around with it this morning and compared v1.1 and v1.2. I still think they've gone a bit too far with the noise reduction (though it was incredibly noisy before). Here's two clips, midi data pasted from one track to the next, no additional reverb, Dennis Sands Mix.

Flute v1.2

The tails sound like a cat meowing :-(
Obviously it sounds better when I add some of my own reverb, but I still think they could have done something a bit more in between for NR. Feels like it's just lost a bit of life.

I wonder how much life comes back in when you add some even hall noise? :-)

I agree it might be pushed a little far, but I'd take 1.2 over 1.1 on that evidence (not that I own CineWinds). I guess you can push up the room sound a little more in the mix as well if you feel it needs a bit more ambience relative to the old? It's a classic side-effect of de-noising that it also reduces perceived ambience.

Aye, true. I've loaded 1.2 into my template regardless of all my moaning ;-)
I've done loads of restoration over the years and it just bugs me when it's applied too much!

I'll stop griping now :-)
