NI Session Strings Pro 2 & Komplete 12 rumours/leak [now inc TRK-01, Middle East and summer half price sale]

Post by Guy Rowland »

This thread predates Komplete 12, but one thing has led to another etc. Scroll down to Sept 6th 2018 for the announcement of Komplete 12.[

Session Strings Pro 2

A new version of Session Strings Pro has been released by NI. A first impression suggest it won't win over the doubters like me, however.

REFRESHED SOUND, NEW INTERFACE, NEW POSSIBILITIES
Building on the immensely popular SESSION STRINGS products, SESSION STRINGS 2 and SESSION STRINGS PRO 2 combine a refreshed sound with a newly designed, modern interface – plus several user-requested features to help you quickly realize your creative vision.

FRESH SOUND
The entire sample collection has been remixed for a contemporary sound. The dry, intimate samples accurately capture vintage instruments played by in-demand session pros at a renowned German studio.

ADDED FEATURES
To enhance expression and streamline your path to creativity, these new editions incorporate several user-requested features.
True legato: Produce a more realistic ensemble sound – each note in a chord has its own correct legato transition. It also includes newly recorded note-to-note legato, portamento, and in SESSION STRINGS PRO 2, note-to-note glissando transitions.
Smart chord: Generate fully orchestrated and complex string chords using single keys.
Smart voice split: Ensure realistic, natural voicing of ensemble chords with notes that are automatically allocated to the correct instrument group.
Mixer page: Fine-tune the ensemble mix using familiar console controls.
Phrase animator: Easily orchestrate and arrange unique, customized phrases (SESSION STRINGS PRO 2 only).
Enhanced rhythmic animator: Create driving rhythmic patterns on the fly with an enhanced, fully editable rhythmic animator, which stays synced to the host DAW.
Color: Transform the sound of your ensemble with a turn of one knob using a powerful master multi-effect capability.
Sound presets: Quickly set master effects, mixer effects, and volumes as well as the on/off state for instruments groups.
Customizable ensemble: Select the size and instrumentation of your string section as an alternative to the full ensemble (SESSION STRINGS PRO 2 only).
I can only see the UK prices, which are £239 and £129 for an update from the previous version.

Most notable would be Massive X and Kontakt 6. It's worth noting that Mario (Evil Dragon) says that Kontakt 6 is not yet in Beta. In the past, NI have released Komplete with a promise of a criticial Kontakt upgrade when available, or alternatively it could mean that we're still some way from the release of Komplete 12.

Hmm, that's a new one on me, Erik, which I don't quite understand - since Maschine isn't part of Komplete, I don't quite follow?

Some of the more recent cross-platform expansions (Maschine, Battery, Reaktor synths etc) do look to be included, but not all.

EDIT - Ah yes, the Maschine expansions were rolled into the new cross-platform ones, I forgot. I don't see all the expansions listed there - no Meteoric Rise for example - but maybe you're right at all the older ones which used to be Maschine are included.

Here's a perhaps easier to digest change list from Ultimate 12 as far as I can figure out:

New to 12 and currently unreleased

INSTRUMENTS
Middle East
Kontakt 6 (currently 5)
Massive X + Library
TRK-01 (might not be a product)

EFFECTS
Freak
Dirt

New to 12 Ultimate

INSTRUMENTS
Strummed Acoustic 2 (currently 1)
Kinetic Toys
Thrill
Symphony Essentials Percussion

EXPANSIONS
Elastic Thump
Molten Veil
Queensbridge Story
Marble Rims
Halcyon Sky
True School
Platinum Bounce
Drop Squad Bundle
Lucid Mission
Caribbean Current
Neon Drive
Astral Flutter
Golden Kingdom
Velvet Lounge
Cavern Floor
Lazer Dice
London Grit
Byte Riot
Decoded Forms
Deep Matter

EFFECTS
Choral
Flair
Phasis

Having skipped 11, 12 will be the one to go for for me. Kontakt 6 is the obvious must-have, but there's a fair few others now that will be nice to have.

Ha, you just beat me to it!

Well that pretty much confirms the list as legit I’d say. Massive X and Kontakt 6, here we come.

Well why not. It's late May, which means the summer sale is likely approaching to get rid of the old stock. So I'd guess June will be half price on Komplete 11 / upgrades. Then Komplete 12 in late August - October. Could well be that Kontakt 6 won't be ready by then, in which case it'll be a voucher to upgrade when its good to go.

I'm not so positive. For such a long-awaited update there will likely be more than one battery of beta tests (as in, several builds would need to be tested, and that could be anywhere from 2 to x), and there's usually a month or two of testing per build...

I don't see K12 out this year, but that's just me. Or should I rather say, I don't see K6 out this year, so by that line of thought K12 wouldn't be this year either. Don't think they'll do the voucher, it's been a reeeeeeally long time since they did that.

Well you're the guru, but I'm pretty sure it was only K10 or K11 that had a voucher for Kontakt 5.6 or something, wasn't it?

And according to the release spreadsheet (I know... this stuff appeals to my nerdiness) https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... edit#gid=4 the longest gap between releases has been 2 years. So anything beyond September would put it as the longest release gap yet, and I can't see their sales folks being very keen on that.

Not that I recall. K5 was a part of Komplete since Komplete 8 till today, K5.6 was not a paid update, you just got it with K10/11.

...oh yes you're right - 5.6 was announced as part of K11 I think, but wasn't ready in time. But no voucher, just got updated when it was done like everyone else with Kontakt 5.

Still, almost everything on the leaked list is out now, just Middle East to go, plus a couple of effects, Reaktor X and Kontakt 6. I find it hard to believe that they'll let it go past September into the longest wait they've ever had. Don't think they'll need K6 to be through Beta before releasing if it comes to it. With K10 Ultimate some of the new synths weren't on the install disk they shipped out, it was a separate download, so I really don't think there's anything too out of the ordinary for NI there.

I have regular Komplete 8. I've found it hard to justify even the very reasonable half price upgrade pricing to move on up. However, since 12 Ultimate will contain Thrill, Rise and Hit, the Symphony Essentials (who knows if they will be useful, but still) and K6, I might finally move up to Ultimate.

One more leaked product is released: Middle East.

https://www.native-instruments.com/en/p ... ddle-east/

With the Crush Pack released last week, I think that's pretty much a full house now for the leaked Ultimate 12 products except the all important Kontakt 6 and Massive X.

Hmmm...

So far I think I'll grab the Kontakt 6 upgrade immediately, not sure if there is much I don't have in Komplete 12, so I may pass on that.

I wish there was more info on the Kontakt updates, but the Lua support strikes me as interesting.

Probably you saw it, but here is all what's new in Kontakt 6. It looks more like a developers update though (and liking that a lot as I am working on a kontakt library, so curious to see how this will pan out)
https://www.native-instruments.com/en/p ... whats-new/

As a synth enthousiast I am curious of course towards Massive X, so will upgrade as with the Kontakt upgrade for sure, I would be a thief of my own wallet to not upgrade. I also like the Discovery series and glad to see the Middle East one included.

The Kontakt 6 update seems great as I'm starting to build some libs of my own! Timing couldn't be better :)

Given I'm always bleating on about how I don't really need more orchestral libraries (unless something REALLY new comes along), I'm figuring that the Symphonic Series is pretty redundant in my case. Anyone with any positive experiences with any of the range?
