Here's a day I never thought would come...the upcoming 9.5 update (free for current 9 licensees) will bring native VST support to Reason:

Beta testing starts now for registered users. I didn't upgrade from 8 to 9, but if ever there was a compelling motivation to do so this would be it!

(I've never understood why Reason exists.... could some kind soul sum it up in 200 words or less?)
Re: Reason 9.5: Introducing VSTs in Reason
Reason is an entirely self-contained musical environment that's almost impossibly stable, very lean, and scales well from "I want to play a piano patch" to "I want to use custom routing to sequence a crazy combo instrument".
It's the most reliable DAW on the market, but it's also not a DAW in the traditional sense because of how many doors "flipping the rack" opens. The only DAW that comes close to that kind of thing is probably Ableton/Bitwig. In that sense it does both less and more than traditional DAWs, which makes it unique if nothing else.

My ReWire days are over and I don't miss them.
