Re: The Unfinished Summer Sale til 8 July
(I have posted this question also at V.I.Control)
Matt, if you read this (or anyone familiar with Matt's presets).
Let's say that you own Zebra2, that you are not experienced with any modern form of electronic writing but orchestral only, that you want to do some experiments with electronic cinematic writing (all synths or perhaps strings/synths) and you are unaware about what sounds fresh and modern (as you are biased because you grown up listening J.M Jarre, Tangerine Dream, Kraftwerk, etc. and wrongly these always will sound modern enough to your biased ears while modern needs are different currently and you want NOT to sound dated).
What would be the Unfinished products of your choice?

I don't own Zebra, but from my view and owning several of Matts products, you simply can't go wrong. I don't think there is a "dated" (meaning bad or unusable) sound in his library.
I would listen to a few examples of each of the sets. If one (or kore) makes you smile, buy it.

As Kayle says, you can't really go too far wrong with Matt's presets - they are all contemporary flavours of cinematic synthesis. His most recent set for Omnisphere, Ferox, is doing the Rezonor / Ross thing, which has been very in vogue of late (which also means its in danger of going out of vogue any minute). And actually Jarre, Kraftwerk, Dream are pretty in vogue again themselves - that 70s analogue era is pretty warmly embraced these days in many quarters, though stuff like Ferox is a safer bet for media work.

Re: The Unfinished Summer Sale til 8 July
Hey Carles, I'd highly recommend my Omnisphere Colossus library as a starting point. It contains 600 patches aimed at modern film scoring (with a specific focus on the vibe of Harry Gregson-Williams and james Newton Howard). It blends lots of synth stuff, with percussion, hybrid acoustic sounds and tons of atmospheric soundscapes.
But, as other kind people have said, I like to think most of what I have done has remained contemporary since I've programmed it. Often it's not what you use but how you use it, right?

Thanks everyone!
Only issue, I do not own Omnisphere or other synths but Zebra only.
Running out of money for synths but just a few pounds would be feasible thus my point on getting some of those so inspiring presets.
Great to know that is not reason for crucifixion by using sounds from decades ago, but even better the comments about that Matt sounds are all fine at any regard (my writing out of the orchestral realm would be another matter to discuss later)
I guess I'll pick some Zebra stuff for little money so far

In that case I'd suggest avoiding perhaps Gravastar, as that's designed to be quite un-synthy. But anything else should serve you well.
