Midsommar sale at Orchestral Tools

Personally, I shudder when I see the word “Midsommar.”
For those who haven’t seen the VERY disturbing movie with that title and plan to, prepare yourself!
That said, OT is having a 50% sale on specific libraries. The one that interests me is the Peteris Vask strings, however
with the premium pricing OT employs, even 50% is a little rich for my blood. Also, I imagine that church ambience is hard to get rid of. Anyway:

Disturbing as frightening or horrifying or what Larry? Anyway, I bought last year the first chair violin of this library to have a feel of how it sounds, played some and quietly put it back in its folder, never to use again. Just don’t know what to make of it, maybe don’t have the patience to explore it thoroughly but it didn’t invite me to play.

Definitely frightening and horrifying, Rob. Unfortunately it’s very well made!

One of the ways I like to use the Peteris Vasks strings, is to combine its Upbeat/Downbeat gestures with the shorts from the Wallfisch library. Adds a flurrying enthusiasm to the whole thing which I wouldn’t know how to suggest quite as effectively in any other way.
Exposed and used excessively as it is in the (quickly made) example below, it obviously doesn’t convince bar after bar, but when added with restraint in the right places — and, of course, in a phrase that is suitable for this type of playing — it can work really, really well, I find. (I used this technique extensively in the "Homo Ludens" piece that I posted a few weeks ago.)
First pass in
this example are the Wallfisch Violins (staccato) on their own, the second pass adds the upbeat/downbeat gestures from the Peteris Vasks Violins.
All this to say: a library I don't regret buying.

Sounds great to me… for, let’s say, artistic intentions, I see this library can be very effective. Given you have the time, and maybe not a full orchestra to write for.
