Glad tidings for fans of the Yamaha CS-80: after Arturia, Cherry Audio and Softube, now XILS-Lab have released their recreation of this legendary synth and, going by their previous work, this should be good. Haven't tried it yet, but XILS-Lab doesn't release rubbish. The GUI's may leave a lot to be desired (usability-wise) and The Eighty appears to be no exception, the preset browsers are quite annoying, but the sound is usually outstanding.

The words with which XILS-Lab tries to sell The Eighty:
● Authentic Reproduction: The Eighty recreates the CS-80's sound and character, capturing its unique tonal qualities and performance features.
● Two Main Synthesis Signal Paths: The instrument features two main synthesis signal paths inspired by the CS-80, along with a third synthesis signal path that can be blended through a 2D mixer for expanded sonic possibilities.
● Meticulous Modeling: The zero-delay 12 dB resonant high-pass and low-pass filters are meticulously modeled in each synthesis signal path to maintain an analog-like sound without digital artefacts. The oscillators are also meticulously modeled to include unique CS-80 characteristics such as saw wave creation with short pulses, ensuring distinctive tone and texture.
● Performance Features: The Eighty offers polyphonic aftertouch, keyboard followers, and velocity sensitivity, allowing players to shape sounds with nuanced expression. It also includes a SUB OSCILLATOR and RING MODULATOR sections for enhanced live playability.
● Sophisticated Arpeggiator: The arpeggiator supports cyclical modulation and muting, going beyond simple up-and-down chord patterns to breathe life into arpeggiated sequences.
● Integrated Effects: Four integrated effects - DEL (delay), PHA (phaser), RVB (reverb), and EQ (equalization) - with independent routing options, deliver a warm and deep sound.
● Over 500 Presets: The Eighty comes with over 500 presets from renowned sound designers, including the original 12 presets that helped shape iconic tracks by artists like Stevie Wonder and Vangelis.

Intro price: €89 (and you can find it cheaper at various online stores).
From February onwards, the price will be €179.
