Pro Tools 2024.6

2024.6 is out. There's greatly enhanced ARA integration here, with support for iZotope Spectral Editor, Synchro Arts VocAlign (though seemingly not 5), RePitch. Sound Radix Auto-Align 2 (added to Melodyne). Promised Revoice Pro support is MIA. Those with active support plans and subs get lite versions of some of these plugs for use with PT.



In truth the implementation is pretty disappointing. There's no zoom in the ARA window, so you have to snip just the bit you need first, then activate the track, then open it. With all those clicks you may as well shove it across the old fashioned way, and get the benefit of all the features including instant process in RX which is faster to work with.

There's also improvements to Dolby Atmos, 2 new midi effects and other minor midi improvements.

The single best feature is small but INCREDIBLY useful - they now have an improved search for clips. You just start typing and the list contracts. This is waaaay better than the old way and a huge timesaver on big projects. You can also now search settings, which is very handy, and only show tracks with active clips, but that implementation is much more half-baked.

Overall it's a good update. Some of the biggest features are only halfway there, but the smaller ones can be golden.

The improvements on the Import Session Data Window will be very helpful, but are limited to sessions saved in the 2024.6 version (and later versions, when they become released); so the value is pretty limited for now but will become increasingly beneficial as more and more sessions are saved in the new format. The improved search for clips will help immediately, however. I'm looking forward to using both.

As for the increased ARA integration, I just now discovered that Synchro Arts was acquired by LANDR Audio last year and that VocAlign Ultra has been discontinued. Fortunately, they're offering me a 50% upgrade to VocAlign Pro 6, but it's still a pretty big expense to incur just to have access to the new ARA integration in Pro Tools. I suppose I'll have to crossgrade eventually regardless, so I may as well do it now even if the implementation in Pro Tools is disappointing. I'm sure this will improve over time as well.

Intro is a 60 day trial, all other versions are permanent licenses.

Just to report this one seems a solid update. No stability issues.

I've never liked Melodyne particularly, and the ARA implementation seems horrible - it won't zoom sensibly, and in my tests I couldn't even hear the changes I made - the notes move visually but there are no audible changes. Don't know if that's a bug or operator error. The new Syncho Arts RePitch is much more practical - just works, navigation is intuitive and sounds good. I still prefer Cubase's VariAudio, but this is now a really useful tool built into PT without any back-and-forth. Great it can be a floating window too.

IMO Avid have got their act together in the last year or two. They are responsive on the DUC, properly engaged with issues and problems, and new features are actually useful. You can even buy it again! And Intro is fantastic - for mastering or podcast / audiobook work it's all you need.

Revoice Pro 5 has just had its ARA update. TBH it's no big deal really, it just opens RVP like the original Connect plugin did. I was kinda hoping you'd be able to pick one track and then just click the Timing preset and it would be done. There may be some benefits I haven't clocked yet.
