Toontrack have released a new EZX: Alchemy Of Pop. It's 14 gigs which makes it one of the larger EZX's. "Pure pop gold", they call it. "Ideal for anything from rootsy beats to pocket-driven, edgy pop."
The library contains four 'character' kits (sampled with a multitude of microphones) each of which is expanded with large selection of one-shot sounds, a.o. layered and remixed drum machine kicks and snares, live-recorded tambourines, claps, shakers and more. There's also an extra set of snares and the kits were sampled with sticks, brushes and mallets.

There's seems to be no "making of"- or any other sort of video this time, but the demos on the product page do give a good idea of what the library has to offer.

This is one of the odder Toontrack expansions. On first glance it looks like a modern hybrid of contemporary real and electronic. But all the kits are vintage sounding, 60s and 70s, and there's not really much electronic stuff.

And yes, it is very large for an EZX. 7 kick channels, 3 snare, 4 overheads and 7 ambient pairs. That's more comprehensive than some of the earlier SDXs.

A total tangent, but I discovered yesterday that the electronic sounds that come with Superior Drummer 3 are part of the program's install - they show up in the instrument browser even if you don't have the core library installed at all.
