Either Trillian or - usually - the real bass hanging on the wall behind me.

Ah, thanks. I have several I like, the Chocolate Audio, ArtVista Tony Newton basses, Pettinhouse, and Trillian of course, but the MODO tempts me because of the number of additional models, not that I would use them often.

I think you’d like it Jay, it really is very good and terrific realism. Why not try the demo?

I did just that.I was tempted to buy it, even more tempted to buy just the $39 version that just has the Fender Precision and Jazz basses, but when I compared it to those in other libraries, it just wasn't really better than others I have in Trillian and the Chocolate Audio B-Bass.

I was working at trying to get that Carol Kaye -Wrecking Crew sound. It's interesting,

On carolkaye.com in an interview she says in FAQ 17:, “I used the Fender Precision bass, with the Fender Super Reverb open-back 4-10" speakers amp for a long time. Then about 1966-67 or so, I started using the enclosed cabinet double-amped Versatone amp (3-4 amps carted around by my cartage company, Van Cartage). You always wiped your strings after each date, and I would carry a chamois for this purpose plus would wipe the strings off with jewelry cleaner once in awhile to keep the strings sounding live, being careful not to get any on the instrument.”

Anyway, I came close to that sound with MODO Bass '60's Precision Bass, picked, going through Amplitude 5 Super Reverb and a UA Fairchild compressor. But then I tried the same plug-in with a Lakland P Bass (which was an upscale knockoff that Bob Glaub preferred) in EW's Goliath and damned if I don't think the end result is just as good,

I know, I am a geek Anyway, I am passing on MODO Bass, but yes, it's good. I just don't need it.

Look at her muting, Jay. A big part of her sound at times.

Funny how we ended up in the same place! I feel bad, because I can't criticise it at all, it's just great. I find myself reaching for vague "missing some secret sauce" explanations.

I really like using both of these. Good plugins.

The patch allows muting. What was unusual though was that she used a felt strip.

Yes. I experimented with it on my Fender bass after watching her video some years ago.
