Rossignol Studios / 8 free instruments

Rossignol Studios, from the looks of it a French one-man operation, has made its entire catalog of Kontakt instruments available for free. 'Entire catalog' is, however, perhaps too grand a description for what is, in fact, a 700mb collection of eight small and fairly simple libraries, mostly organs or organ-related instruments, plus one whistling instrument and another one that contains sampled glasses.

All the same, these are useful things. Not so much if you're looking for impact-full sounds for your next epic widescreen hybrid extravaganza, but very much so if you have an interest in unusual, odd, quaint timbres and small-scale coziness. All but one of the organs are situated in the calliope / barrel organ / harmonium niche (and there's one that's more electronic), the whistle is, well, a whistle, and the sampled glasses can be either struck or made to resonate by circular finger motion (at least that's what it sounds like). And the graphic design and typographic choices for the GUI's are sooo bad, it's charming.

All in all, more than enough to say a big 'thank you' to Rossignol Studios.
