Performance Samples / Vista

"Vista is a legato strings library featuring a larger-than-life, romantic chamber sound, four dynamics (from a true PP all the way up to an intense FFF), slurred legato, same-note bow-change repetition samples, multiple attack types, and more. Just like Con Moto, the sustains, legato, and other assets were recorded “in motion.” The sustains specifically use an “active-bow” approach (employed on Con Moto and others) which offers continuously re-expressed vibrato & emotion, via performance & editing processes. Vista features 5 violins, 4 violas, 3 cellos, and 3 basses. There are some bonuses, one of which is a basic full strings patch (created from the individual sections), useful for sketching and pads. Also included is an overlay patch featuring 3 violins playing sustains and legato with heavy vibrato at FFF, useful for layering on the main 5 violins patch for more legato gel and detail. Lastly there’s a harp, with notes recorded in repetition so that it can do repeated notes fluently."
There's a
free 5 violins demo patch available via
this page.
$249 INTRO PRICE through January 30th, 2021 (reg. $339).

Nice distinctive sound. Will try that demo patch at the weekend.

Just hearing this now - I am downloading the free patch to give it a try. Like you Guy, I am a big fan of LASS - but this is a different sound from LASS for sure.

Anyone else have troubles with the free sample? I downloaded it via Connect app and it seems to be installed - but when I start it in Kontakt, it can't find the samples, even though I point it to the Sample folder from the Install.
EDIT: Got it working the Connect app keeps crashing before it installs all of the samples. Did a manual install and all is well.

No problem here, downloaded it, tried it, don't like it. Too noisy, too much vibrato.

I've just tried these, and compared them with Soaring Strings which seems its most obvious competitor for a full-blown rich and romantic vibrato library. Its an interesting comparison. Vista has two mic positions, Soaring just one, and it's in a bigger sounding space (though definitely not what I'd call an ambient library - it's a bit roomier than, say, Hollywood Strings). Soaring is considerably brighter, Vista is actually quite dark sounding, and for that reason Soaring has the stronger out-of-the-box vintage vibe, instantly transporting you back to 1940. Vista is more modern romantic than vintage, but some eq / saturation etc would fake it fairly easily I guess. (I love putting things though one of the Waves Kings's Microphones to sound really old).
I think Soaring's weakest point is that there's no portamento. The legato is smooth and fast but I sorely miss the port for that old-school vibe. Vista is somewhere in the the middle, with the transitions more emphasised than Soaring and therefore being more suited to that sort of writing, perhaps not going quite as far as full portamento but getting close.
I don't hear any room noise as such Jay, but there are a lot of noticeable bumps and imperfections (very much Performance Samples house style), which are fine for some situations but would quickly become limiting if you were repeating notes in a hurry.
Overall I liked it, but with the bumps didn't love enough for the price. It has made me a bit more frustrated with Soaring though... why on earth did they skimp on the port?
