AcousticSamples has released version 3 of their B5 Organ software, a free update for existing users. Here's what's new:

- Redesigned interface to have the switches positions match a real B3
- Complete signal chain rewrite which allowed us to include nearly 150 new voicing models that can be changed manually (that includes models A, AV, B, B2, C2, BA, BC , CV, B3, C3, A100, RT3 and a few others)
- Voicings are now separate from 4 tonewheel models = nearly 600 different combinations (and that’s before advanced editing)
- Enable/Disable the manual tapering or use a hybrid manual tapering
- New “Tone Control” emulating the real potentiometer present in real organs
- Completely redesigned tube distortion
- Improved keyclick to match variation depending on phase start
- New FX panel with Chorus, Phaser, Delay, Was, Auto-Wah, overdrive and fuzz
- Entirely new Leslie simulation featuring multiple models (122, 147, 3300 and more)
- Separation of “brake” and Leslie speed
- Total independent control over Horn and Drum speakers
- MIDI control overhaul, including new MIDI Learn function
- So many more things that you just need to head over to the B-5 page to discover it all! (we are still updating the page).

So my “go to” just got better. Good news, thanks Piet.

Abysmal performance right now in Cubase; improved in Logic Pro X.
From AcousticSamples "Our team is currently investigating a potential bug when using B-5 in Steinberg DAWs such as Cubase or Nuendo, I will keep you informed as soon as I have a feedback from our team."

Yikes. I was about to press that button for $76!

Probably best-for as much as I use B-3s, the Vintage Organs in Komplete are fine (though I liked their B4 better.)

Odd that such a glaring short-coming — the poor performance in Cubase, I mean — only surfaces after the product's been released, isn't it? It's not as if Cubase is an obscure niche program that only 4 or 5 people use and you'd think that AcousticSamples would have at least one seasoned Cubase user on their beta-team.

But it'll get fixed.

I like the update. This B5, no matter how good it's become, still can't completely erase the memory of the 32bit version of the GSi VB3, which remains my all-time favourite virtual electric organ software — the current 64bit version of the VB3 somehow never manages to impress me the way its predecessor always did; something got lost along the way, I find —, but this newest version is without question several steps in the right direction.

My friend, Dave Gross, is an excellent B3 player, who works with different kinds of Leslies, amps, and mics. When he heard B5-v2 he thought it was very good, pretty comparable to the IK Multimedia authorized Hammond B3, but had some problems with some things, especially the Leslie speakers. I put the two of them in touch with each other and they had lengthy discussions about it, which are incorporated in v3. Arnaud gives him a shoutout at the end of the walkthrough.

An update of the B-5 V3 has now been released. I haven’t tested it thoroughly yet, but so far, so good.

Yes. That was the DAW where the problems occurred. It seemed to be okay in Logic when it was first released.
