Pulpo Audio has released a set of five FREE instruments (available as AU's or VST's), four of which are percussion (bongos, congas, guiro and timbales) and one so-called 'Dry Aged' acoustic bass.
Like I said, they're offered completely for free, so don't expect too much, yet they're surprisingly good-sounding and much more versatile than you might think at first. The bass, for example, has 3 sound sets (Bridge, Sound Hole and Muted), each with adjustable gain for Line (recorded from pick up) and Mic (recorded with microphone). There are six velocity layers, plus plenty of controls to tweak the sound and the way it responds.
All the percussion is sampled extensively as well: dozens of different hits or strokes, 8 velocity layers. And all of it in a more than decent sound.
