Got a mail just now saying it was a denial-of-service attack and estimated back in 2 hours.

They're back, but looks like they've experienced some data loss.

Yeah looks like roughly a day's worth of data? (There doesn't seem to be much about it, or much notice being taken of it, on the site itself (yet)).

They lost 14 hours posting. The internet does forget!

Yeah it's really surprising, I've only seen one person commenting on the data loss.

There are 3 topics about it (2 in off-topic and 1 in the Questions about the new site section), but with indeed minor responses.

Ah OK thanks Jaap, I hadn't seen those. I imagine some advertisers/devs mightn't be a bit tweaked, e.g. there was a cinesamples commercial post (a return after a long time?) advertising their new twelve horn product yesterday, which has now disappeared.

Yes, bit of a bummer to see posts disappear. Can't even remember what I posted, don't tell me I have to back that up too now!
