If I add Altiverb EMT140 to a track I'm working on, I listen and decide if it improves or detracts from the sound I'm hoping to achieve.

I surely have learned this lesson at great expense. One day soon I'll get into the plugin folder and remove all that never get use.
Ray, I know you know this but for others who don't: the UAD Plate 140 is an algorithmic reverb and has a "breathing" quality to it that I add to QL Spaces, which, like Altiverb, is a convolution reverb. Convolution reverbs are like snapshots, very accurate, but they don't breathe. Also, it is warmer, more analog soumding

So for the purposes I use it the Plate 140, the Altiverb version simply would not bring those things to the table and back when I owned Altiverb 6 for several years, in fact, it didn't.

Premier Sound Factory also joins in the Black Friday festivities.
Worth taking note, in my opinion, because they sell the very best upright bass, some fabulous sounding drums (ultra-dry, tape-y, mid-70's sound) and plenty of other really good libraries.

Piet- it was the Premier 2 you were enamored with, yes? I think we decided the arco was kind of useless, but the tone on the box itself, quite pleasing. I think for $70 I might just make it an auto PRP (Piet Recommended Purchase.)

Larry,

Yes, Premier2. There's no risk anymore of buying the wrong version because the original (v1) is no longer part of the Premier-catalog.
And enamored is le mot juste, yes.

X,

I don't have the shaku. Sorry. I turn to Premier mainly for (1) the phenomenally good upright bass and (2) that dry, mid-70's soul-funk-rock-jazz drum- and keyboard-sound, which they've captured very well in my opinion.
Oh, and I have the harpsichord and the piano as well. Good too, but not special.

The electric bass is a surprise too. It doesn't sound like much when you audition it on its own, in fact it sounds remarkable uninteresting when you do that, but drop it in a mix, and it sits amazingly well, doing the very thing that you hope a bass will do.

Wait. Wait!! ... There's another goodie there: the wind chimes. Not something you use every day, but if you need one, you can do a lot worse than picking this one. Good sound, and very cleverly programmed, making it more playable than most sampled wind chimes.

Loads of new stuff added, can't remember what it all is now - NI's in there now among many others. Just give the OP a scan - it's still not too unweildy and that was the main point I guess.

Breaktweaker expanded for $101.66 at Plugin Boutique. That looks like an amazing deal. Anyone own this? Looks like a lot of fun.

It's also available right form the Izotope site for $99

Actually it's $84 in cart at jrrshop - https://www.jrrshop.com/izotope-break-tweaker-expanded

I have it, and it makes be grumpy. Sadly it's a half finished product that iZotope has not formally abandoned. Such a shame as there were good ideas in there and a lot of the content is good. I've still used it occasionally and got good results, but be warned it's a real CPU hog. I used this with UVI's Relayer - another CPU hungry plugin - and it brought my gleaming six core machine to its knees, and became the first thing I've ever had to render just to make a project work at all.

Irritatingly, it sounded really good.

Oh man, bummer. I don't like cpu hungry. I'm still running a 2008 8 core Mac Pro. It's still hanging tough, but I try to avoid hogs. I think I'll download the 10 day demo and see for myself.

Thanks for the insight Guy -
