Just a teaser, if you are looking for a big, epic sounding brass library with serious cojones, this isn't it. Not as aggressive even as Hollywood Brass and of course there are more aggressive brass libraries than HB in the marketplace.

But the same is true of CSS vs some other string libraries but if like me if you really like the sound of CSS, I think you will be quite pleased with CSB as well.

To my ears, most of CSB demos, both developer, and user demos lack a certain brightness at higher dynamics, which is quite useful to have, but in general CSB lacks this, which gives it a general dark and warm character, even at higher dynamics.

I like the way CineBrass offers that brighter, cutting through a mix frequency at higher dynamics. CSB imho. lacks that.

I didn't purchase CSB (yet), but this is my conclusion from just listening to the currently posted audio demos.

It is warmer than bright, as are their strings. For the kind of music I am mostly called upon to write it works but for other music I would augment it with others.

For me, it was a workflow decision. I heard some nice user demos very early after the release, which was a good indication that the library was easy to use. I have found that to be the case, and also like the warmer sound, which is a nice alternative to CineBrass.

Hi Jay,

Thanks for confirming my observation. I have CineBrass, and CineBrass Pro, both are great sounding brass libraries, which are more on the brighter side than CSB, so I'm guessing it is not a bad thing to add CSB for the warmer brass applications, since that seems to be what it excels at.

From another perspective, one of the things I like about Hollywood Brass is that it strikes a pretty good balance between warm and bright. As a result, given the amount of brass I use, I haven’t been particularly compelled to go looking for the Next Big Thing.

As for anything dark I just sprinkle with some distorsion and add some Clariphonic. Works real nice with CSB as well.

The workflow is insanely good. Just like CSS. Gotta write script to compensate latency but after that, just plug and play. Timings are consistent, dynamics are consistent, everything just sounds GOOD and musical and the legatos work.

Assisting on a TV show in the New Year and CSB will be 90% of the mockup brass we need. Augmented a little with Caspian or Berlin or perhaps Albion where needed. But for feature brass, CSB all the way. The ability to get things done fast is ultimately the most important consideration. I dread working with Berlin compared to this. After comparing the two I feel no urge to pay $500+ for Cinebrass CORE+PRO.
