iZotope's Insight 2 is free again for a time. Again, what an age in which we live.

iZotope has their Insight metering plugin for free over the holidays, and NI has a new free Massive X expansion.

I use Insight all the time, it's very good.

What are the unique selling points of Insight?

Alternatively: if I already have Supervision, TrackMeter and Metric A/B, do I need it? πŸ˜‰

You probably don't need it if you use the first two of those, to be fair.

Alright, thanks.

Free is good, but I'm always hesitant to get into yet another plugin ecosystem. Got enough stuff and software hubs to keep track of as it is πŸ™‚

I stopped using Insight after Cubase introduced Supervision. I'd say no need to have both unless something very special in the GUI appeals to you more.

Btw. what is TrackMeter doing that the others don't?

Good question. I'm honestly not sure, and I'm probably not the best person to answer. They both contain a bunch of meters and things that I barely even know what they are or what I should use them for πŸ™‚

I've mostly used the usual FFT and the phase/panorama displays. Both plugs have them in various forms of course, though I think I prefer the look and some of the coloring options in TrackMeter. But I'm also just used to the DMG style after staring at Equilibrium for so many years. TrackMeter does have the rather psychedelic 3D spectrogram, which is very cool and pretty to look at, but I'm not sure it's actually useful.

Metric is a useful addition though for A/B comparisons with reference tracks, and one-button isolation of just the L/R/mid/side channels. It does crash on me a lot though.

You all probably have a similar tool already, but in case you don't or you"d like to try something different at no cost: KERN Audio β€” a Danish one-man operation β€” has a free stereo analysis tool called CHECK. Works well.

Free for 4 more days only - Mastering The Mix's Animate via Plugin Alliance:
Free for 7 days only
Promotion limited to one license per customer. Ends Tue Mar 24.

ANIMATE is designed for the moment when your mix is technically fine, but it still feels flat. It lets you inject movement, punch, warmth, and width in a controlled way, using four modes that can be targeted by frequency and shaped with mid and side options.

Four modes, one purpose: make the track feel alive
ANIMATE's four modes Expand, Punch, Ignite, and Grow are each designed for a different kind of enhancement, from upward expansion and transient shaping to dynamic harmonic distortion and psychoacoustic widening. Use a single mode or combine multiple modes for more complex results.

Precision without losing control
Because each mode can be targeted and adjusted with intent, ANIMATE is useful on individual elements like drums and vocals, as well as on buses and full mixes when you want the track to feel more engaging without simply turning it up.

System Requirements

Mac: OS X 10.15 or higher. 64-bit AU, VST 3 or AAX host. Apple Silicon Native.

Windows: Windows 10 or higher. 64-bit VST 3 or 64-bit AAX host.

I haven’t gone on KVR forever, and I’ll probably skip it rather than go through the password reset crap, which drives me nuts.
