Klevgrand / OneShot 2

Post by Piet De Ridder »

Klevgrand's wonderfully capable drum sampler OneShot has been updated to version 2 and now includes — next to tons of new samples and presets (a.o. a brand new brushes kit and an entirely new studio kit, plus a large collection of percussion) — a Motion engine that allows for the creation and manipulation of phrases that "evolve and breathe" over time.

Furthermore, and this is quite a Klever idea, you can now hook up a smartphone (currently iPhone only) to your DAW and use it as a shaker, using the phone's accelerometer to control the Motion engine. You'll need the MotionController app, but that's free. (Haven't tried this yet, because I don't have a smartphone, let alone an iPhone, but I like the idea.)

Currently $119.99 for new users. Full price will be $199.99.
Owners of the first version of OneShot can upgrade for $39.59.

This looks and sounds really good! Great idea with the iPhone.

I likely don't need it (surprise) but I'm curious, knowing nothing about the original OneShot - how does it work with mic positions / bleed etc?

It doesn't have mic positions or bleed (as a built-in feature, I mean). At least, none of the current kits have any of this. It is possible, since OneShot offers you any number of slots that can be filled with whatever you like/need, so you could use a couple of them for bleed samples or different mic perspectives.
(I made one custom kit in the first version of One Shot with samples from the Yurtrock Revival Snare & Bassdrums collection, and I used different slots for different mic perspectives of one and the same snare. Once everything is in place, it's simply a matter of balancing the slots to taste. Plenty of fairly tedious work though.)

For me, the appeal of OneShot is: (1) the slot/trigger concept works well (see overview video in previous post) and (2) the 'Klevgrand sound', which I happen to rather like.
