Rumours of Absynth's death have been greatly exaggerated

Post by Guy Rowland »

Shock twist - Absynth 6 is imminent. Reddit thread here:

Confident this is legit (other sources confirming). It is a major change of heart from Native Instruments who had previously announced Brian Clevinger's brainchild was end of life:
The resource required to maintain Absynth in keeping with modern standards has become too much of a challenge. Absynth has also long been in need of updates and improvements, and we are unfortunately not able to provide the synth with the attention it needs.

NI has been in touch with Brian Clevinger about this topic for some time. He had offered his help to further improve Absynth, but it would have still required a significant effort on our end to modernize the product and keep it aligned with the portfolio. Ultimately we were not able to commit to further development work, and made sure Brian was amongst the first to know.

It will be fascinating to hear what caused the change of heart.

Wow, thanks for the heads up, Guy.

I’m hopeful that this will be a worthy successor to the classic Absynth.

Best,

Geoff

Absynth was a pain to program. Here’s hope they’ll improve the UI !

Great thing if NI is back to virtual synth rather than staying mostly focused on sampled instruments.

I am pretty psyched for this. I always loved the vibe of Absynth and for sure, let's hope there is a nice, modern, user friendly UI.

There have been a few little leaks on the forums from people in the know. All allegedly:

Backwards compatible (this is an update not a rework like Massive X to Massive)
Sonically the same but IIRC there's gonna be a few new filter choices
UI / UX improvements esp to the MSEG editor

I must confess I never delved under the hood as the thing intimidated me. I think this update might be good for me and encourage tweakage and fun experimentation.
