Audiothing / Wurly

If you haven’t got a Wurlitzer emulation yet (and you want one), or you don’t like the one you have, and if a perfectly servicable virtual Wurlitzer is worth $39 to you (until July 9th when the price goes up to $69), then hop over to the Audiothing website because they have just released Wurly which includes models of both the 200 and the 200A series.

Using both physical modeling and sampling for its sound, the Audiothing Wurly includes soundshaping parameters you won’t find on a purely sampled emulation: you can control various characteristics of the pickup, the mechanical noises, the envelope, the ‘clank’, the pedal, etc. … Audiothing also sampled the speakers of each model, so you can blend the direct sound with authentic speaker sound.

In concept very much the same thing as the amazing and fabulous AcousticSamples VReeds instrument, but that one costs €99.

There seems to be only one demo of the Audiothing Wurly for the time being, and that’s the video below:

Nice, sounding pretty good. I'm still using (gasp!) Lounge Lizard for this duty but wasn't aware of the VReeds, so thanks for pointing that out, Piet. Not sure how I managed to miss that one, as I have lots of their others.

Anyway, this sounds pretty good and it being modeling + samples vs samples-only is definitely a plus in my book for playability. More and more developers are trending this way. I'll make sure to compare the two. Might be time to add to LL.
Pale Blue Dot.
