Re: Cubase 13 [RELEASED]

Oof. That sounds like a decidedly worse experience. That highlighting issue in particular is quite silly. I'm still on 8.5. I tried upgrading to 11 once, everything caught fire and I ran back to my old reliable. For what I do, it does the trick and I don't really feel I am missing anything because ...

Re: Acousticsamples VWinds Clarinets announced

I'd also be interested in hearing how you get on with them, Piet! I'd be especially interested to hear how these instruments work in their built-in positional tool versus the almighty Spat V3. By default I am always rather skeptical of built-in positioners though I must admit that this one actually ...

Re: Apple M3, M3 Pro, M3 Max

WTH is “unified memory” anyway? I understand that RAM isn’t exactly RAM anymore, but I don’t get how it works. It refers to the CPU and GPU using the same (physical) memory. In plain English: instead of having two separate cupboards, one where the CPU is allowed to store things and one where the GPU ...

Re: Abbey Road Orchestra - Violins 1 announced

Not blown away but not disappointed either. It's exactly what I was expecting from Spitfire: nice shorts, middle-of-the-road legato, great room, all the standard Spitfire articulations and the standard marketing hype. This company's playbook should be well-known at this point and so should all their ...

Re: Performance Samples - Pacific Ensemble Strings

If anybody is interested in a comparison with Cinematic Studio Strings, I made a mockup of the John Dunbar theme with them a few years ago: https://youtu.be/vfLg8BafXjI?t=68 This is nice. I like CSS in here but I couldn't help but notice there is one frequency somewhere in the mids/low mids that is ...

Re: Performance Samples - Pacific Ensemble Strings

I’m sure that to many people, Pacific may be the ideal stringslibrary, or close to it, for any number of very good and totally sensible reasons — which I don’t want to take anything away from —, but there’s something in the Performance Samples’ sampling recipe that makes for a result which, sonicall ...

Re: EastWest / Hollywood Orchestra OPUS Edition

Here's a very recent example of some hollywood strings (with a little help from adachi). Still needs a fair bit of polishing, but I think this demonstrates a strong side of HWS, the togetherness and the sustains.

Re: Are You Waiting for something Interesting to show up in Dec. ?

I'm hoping my music will get good in december :)

OK, all kidding aside, I'm also curious about #3 (though I'm not sure where you heard that?) and secondly I hope Mike Verta will do another unleashed though I don't have particularly high hopes.

Re: EastWest / Hollywood Orchestra OPUS Edition

Great tips, thanks Matthias! I found that stacc slur patch and it sounds great. In general the connected articulations feel promising. I'm just coming to the end of a very busy patch, hoping over the next couple of months to properly dive into HOOPUS and add to the template. Happy to help. For what ...

Re: EastWest / Hollywood Orchestra OPUS Edition

I am always happy to see people (re)discover the hollywood orchestra. Regarding EW's business practices - they've been doing this forever. That's not an excuse but I know what to expect with them. I got on the OPUS train very early and probably shelled out a couple hundred dollars more than I could ...

Re: Audio Imperia & Performance Samples / Fluid Woods

If you do end up getting them PIet, let us know how you get on. I'm eyeing these too but I am not entirely sure I could justify getting them because I already know I would be using these to layer with other libraries and probably would not feature them by their lonesome.

Re: Cubase 12 released

Can't believe they STILL haven't brought back localized undo. Never made sense why they just nixed this feature after v10. Very, very disappointing. This one feature is why I still haven't upgraded (aside from not feeling the need). I actually thought it was removed before v10, maybe in 9 or 9.5 ...

Re: Bohemian Violin v4 (expansion 3) released - now with 100% less UVI

Whew, I have a stone-age version of the bohemian violin and this looks like quite the update! UVI was rather crash prone on my system so I'm happy to see they switched to Gorilla (heard some good things about that platform before through the grapevine). I'm quietly hoping Virharmonic will eventually ...

Re: Metropolis Ark on sale

Even my DAW doesn’t like Sine: 8 times out of 10, when I try to load Sine, Logic shies like a startled horse, shuts down immediately and then gives me the notification: “Logic Pro X quit unexpectedly while using the cryptocppdx64.dylib plug-in.” Might have nothing to do with Sine as such, I don’t kn ...

Re: EastWest / Hollywood Orchestra OPUS Edition

The biggest advantage of OPUS that I've noticed is that projects load faster. Play is just way slow with loading instruments in comparison. There are certainly also improvements in patches, and the expansions are nice, but the loading speed is a more noticeable gain. There are things that annoy me ...

Re: EastWest / Hollywood Orchestra OPUS Edition

There are some basic red lines for a sampler, things like not blasting your ears, not crashing VEPro, not irretrievably corrupting your project files etc. so the negative reception of OPUS is pretty fair IMO since those reported white noise blasts are SCARY. Instant dealbreaker for me, no matter ...

Re: VSL Synchron Elite Strings (Chamber Ensemble)

The last few VSL releases have made me doubt my sanity and hearing. Either my hearing is absolutely terrible and the (not unsubstantial) group of people heaping praise on these Elite strings are hearing something that I can't, OR they really are as dead, nasal, and lifeless as I'm hearing them to be ...

Meets - and in some places exceeds - my expectations, and expectations were pretty damn high! From the videos I think the oboe and flute impress the most, but I'll have to get it under my fingers to get a better impression. Re: Black Friday Post Mortem - How'd You Do?

$0 this time. My 64gb VEPro machine is already full of good stuff. I was tempted by some plugin deals though. Re: Spitfire @ Abbey Road !/?

For me that doesn't sound like a new BML series but more like a giant There are actually three kinds of libraries they are making, not two. 1. The foundation one's (like Albions) 2. The pre-orchestrated one trick ponies. 3. The modular libraries (like BML) I asked on the VI-C thread for ...

Yes, very nice sound - the trumpets seem particularly good. Overall its another oddly balanced release though, with 10 mic positions but all ensembles and no legatos. That's just plain weird to me, such a bizarre set of priorities. I think I can understand this move. This particular product is not ...

I’m thinking the Harp and Animator, which could be useful for a possible upcoming gig. Harp is a no, no. Go for the chocolate instead, much much much much much better. Really, it’s that much better. Much better... I actually prefer the SAM harp. Different stokes for different folks I suppose :)
