Re: Waves sale now down to $19.99 each (inc. Torque)

That is quite the sale! And there are even a couple of plugins I may check out... but do I really need more plugins? Pretty sure the answer is no. And do I really want a tangle of Waves plugins cluttering up my system. Almost assuredly no. I forget how many Waves plugins I have, but on those rare oc...

Re: Hits - made easy!

I've been whining about this mentality for a while, long enough that I finally stopped saying it out loud. It is beyond ridiculous, some portion of their customers (a large one I'd bet) don't have a clue and they are throwing their money away on a lie. It is one thing to throw away money on a dream ...

Re: Toontrack / "State Of the Art" SDX

I must confess, I am really impressed with the "artist" SDX editions. They are somewhat limited by the fact that they sound exactly like you'd expect them to sound. Not a criticism by any stretch, but it makes it a little tougher to rationalize the purchases. I have Decades, Al Schmitt is ...

Re: Softube / Model 77

as much as I can tell from listening over the web it sounds nice! I have no complaints about the Cherry Audio version, but Softube does a nice job with synthesizers, I'll almost certainly add this to the far-too-large list of classic synth emulations at my fingertips.

Might as well be, development has slowed to a crawl, and Magix does not do much to promote it, focusing on the less expensive versions instead. I simply don't trust them to keep the platform afloat. If I'm wrong that'll be good news.

Daryl - guilty as charged, but some habits are challenging to break<G>... since I really have little choice in the matter I am going to learn to use Dorico, and take advantage of the benefits, and hopefully step over the impediments!

Re: RIP Finale

I've been using Finale for a long time, back at least 25 years, I've stuck with it because it is comfortable, I know (roughly) how things work, and the upgrade fees have not been usury, although the last couple had a questionable ratio of fixes and features to cost. And maybe I've been lucky, but al...

I realize he has been off the radar for a while, but still, what a loss, both musically and as a person. I like watching him in Snarky Puppy and Spectrasonics videos. And this one is amazing. (oddly my favorite part is his demo of the Roland MKS-20. Something about that sound, neither acoustic nor r...

I was surprised, really, at the differences between the original Albion release and Albion ONE. I did not want to give up that much disc space so I only have "Albion ONE" installed. I had a list of things I liked better in the original release, but I can't find it at the moment. I do use t...

Re: VST buzz closing down sales

Emmet is a good guy, and while I do have my reservations about these sorts of prices making it more difficult for developers to maintain their edge I am not a marketing guy, and I don't think VSTBuzz would have lasted as long as it has if it was truly discouraging sales. In fact I think VSTBuzz has ...

It is a good thing that you do - or attempt to do. My parents had an extensive record collection that I too wanted to donate, it kills me, but they ended up in the dumpster, seems no one wants vinyl, or even CDs these days. Or they didn't 3 years ago. Are there any community music schools in your ar...

I have Special Edition Vol 1, and Epic Orchestra (which came with VEPro). I really like them, and have considered expanding on them, but the cost was just too high considering other libraries I have that cover the same ground (just differently <G>). Now I'm not so sure, I may splurge and pick up Spe...

I think the library sounds like a French Horn, almost as if you were seated in the horn section. I am tempted, but I am trying hard to keep my poor library in its current state. :)

I do that a lot, but of course now that you asked I have to go downstairs and take notes, but it isn't all that difficult, and the results are uniformly good.

I will do that this evening.

I could not live without a good audio editor. CoolEditPro was really good, I was less impressed with Audition, it tried to be too many things. My first choice, however, was Sound Forge. The fastest editing environment ever! At least for me. These days I use Wavelab Pro 12, and I am slowly becoming c...

Sound Paint Disco Strings

I've waxed poetic about trying to capture "The Sound of Philadelphia" strings. A lot of that sound had to do with some very clever string writing, but the studio and the players made large contributions as well. At the moment I've used Kirk Hunter's Pop/Rock Strings, and that about as good...

Re: Inflators, exciters, saturators and all that

it depends on what you are trying to accomplish. If you just want to sound louder the easy path is a compressor pushed till it flatlines the waveform. Energy density. Sadly it will sound like the remnants of a horses breakfast. For other things there are other tools. Exciters are an interesting cate...
