Re: Spitfire Audio: The BBC Radiophonic Workshop

This is something I may pick up in the future. I do like these little snapshots of audio history, especially when I can play them.

significantly better than I expected, but I didn't expect much.

It is an interesting idea. but a long way from being useful to musicians.

Now the general public, sadly, will always go for "good enough"

Re: Arturia Pigments 6

I've been watching! This and some of their tutorials. I think I shall download the demo, and may someone have mercy on my wallet! It won't, I don't think, replace Alchemy, but it may get close, especially since I have access to the waveforms that Camel Audio provided. I don't think it replaces the u ...

Re: Arturia Pigments 6

I get it, the various demos and tracks sound awesome,, and the feature list approaches the insanity that was Alchemy - so yeah, it is a cool and capable plugin. What am I missing? Or what am I missing out on? I can get it for $49, which seems like it could be a no-brainer.. Then the devil on my ...

Re: apulSoft / apQualizr 2

The only FabFilter plug-ins I have, are Saturn and Volcano. Funny, I have Volcano and Timeless, and would not trade them out. Before apQualizr elbowed its way in, the EQ’s I used (and will keep using) most often are the DMG Equilibrium, the Goodhertz ToneControl, the Crave, the two UA Massenburgs, ...

Re: apulSoft / apQualizr 2

Every once in a while I am tempted to delete all but one or two EQ plugins, I mean who needs all these plugins??? I've just never been able to choose which ones to keep. For the most part I am happy with my collection, the majority of which are emulations (I know I complain about emulations, but ...

Re: David Lynch (1946-2025)

He was an individual, true to his vision, even if the rest of us did not immediately catch on. Blue Velvet was my intro to DL. It was also the first time I understood what a great soundtrack can do to an audience. Twin Peaks was absolutely brilliant (to me anyway) and showed what could be done with ...

You know, I have wondered about that, especially in this case it sometimes seemed like you were writing with different voices :)

No apology necessary, but I appreciate the info, now I don't need to be quite as embarrassed about my writing.

I'm nowhere the writer that Piet is, or for that matter... But I have to concur on "Chairman at the Board" and :On the Record" - they are two of my favorite engineers, and the books are a great read. My favorite book about music is probably "Make Mine Music" by Bruce Swedien and Quincy Jones. I have ...

Re: Inflators, exciters, saturators and all that

An interesting observation Piet! I can't remember who, but several years ago a friend and I were discussing his extreme disappointment with various plugins. I don't remember the details, but I remember being really quite happy with the same plugins. Eventually we dug deep enough to discover that I ...

Jay - you can add to your achievements that you long ago dissuaded me from treating sample libraries like people. Currently I try to write to the libraries strengths (I have a long way to go before know them well). If I did not mention it, I finally caved and purchased a license for Hollywood Opus ...

Sound. The differences range from subtle to obvious, and I really like the sound. I am comparing the two, in my place, so I did manage to reduce the variables (I have LASS Lite). I really like the recorded scales and octaves, probably won't use them a lot, but when I need them... I think I still ...

Jaap - you really do have a knack for creating interesting sounds! No idea what will happen with these, but I ...

The price for Modern Scoring Strings was really tempting, and I did have a few bucks left over from Christmas shopping, so I let my weaker side rule and picked up MSS complete. I didn't think I needed another string library, but after a day or two I am beginning to think that maybe I did. It sounds ...

Re: Torn between two worlds

I have the "baby" Seaboard, I love it, and I hate it. There is a lot to learn, and a lot of skills to develop, to use it effectively. I wouldn't sell mine. The Osmose looks awesome, but since I am still learning how to take advantage of MPE I think my shopping days are on pause. If I was deciding ...

Re: Acustica Audio / TH8-5 (The Thing Suite)

I'm a little less picky about absolute fidelity to the original - especially since it is not possible. I am extremely picky about staying true to the vibe (can't think of a better word I'm afraid). And I am not against multiple interpretations or emulations of the same product. I have an MKS-80 in ...

When a project required me to "graduate" from GPO I ended up with 8Dio Adagietto, a simplified version of Adagio. I had not yet discovered just how well their demos presented their products. I was not disappointed, no regrets, I still have it, along with Adagio and the Agitato expansions on my ...

Re: Black Friday 2024 hot tips

I suspect more of us will fall victim as the end of the sale season draws near. I picked up Modern Scoring Strings (passed on Duality) because I always wanted LASS, and MSS seems even better, at least in terms of the sound of the demos. I also picked up Atomic Big Band, I am still searching for that ...
