Re: Falcon 1.6 released
Thanks! I was leaning toward those two based on the demos, so it's nice to hear they live up to expectations.

Re: Falcon 1.6 released
Y'know, I might actually consider hopping in on this deal. Falcon's been on my radar since it was released.
What expansions do you folks recommend? A lot of them seem quite interesting and useful to me, so I'd love to get some opinions from owners.

Re: Pianoteq 6.1 released
Since the Bluethner model arrived, I've been entirely satisfied with the Pianoteq sound, and playability remains peerless. The out-of-the-box sound can often be too perfect, kind of lifeless and alien, but that's part of the appeal...you don't use the default, you tweak. The engine lets you tailor ...

Re: NI Komplete Kontrol Keyboards Mk2 and Maschine Mk3
Ah, my mistake. I hope we have reason to be hopeful then! I personally still miss the 76-key size as 88 is larger than I want.

Re: NI Komplete Kontrol Keyboards Mk2 and Maschine Mk3
They also put a sound card in this gen, which is a smart move! Looks like a solid update. I wouldn't worry too much about the 88-key...if I remember correctly, it came out a bit later for gen 1 too, didn't it? Maybe I'm misremembering.

Re: iZotope Spire Studio - portable hardware mic / recorder
I think the key selling point is that the hardware signal processing and app side of things work together to give you better results than you'd expect from an otherwise basic mic setup like this. Solid signal + iZotope processing magic at the press of a button is an appealing proposition, as long as ...

Re: iZotope Spire Studio - portable hardware mic / recorder
I have no idea how useful it'll be for music, but looking at this I immediately think it ought to make a terrific podcasting setup. I'll be eager to try it if I can!

Re: FabFilter 25% off Bundle Sale till July 30th
FabFilter’s appeal is in the unique marriage of excellent algorithms (not a rarity these days, true) with extremely functional and appealing interfaces. Sometimes the best effects are stuck in terrible interfaces that are skeumorphic for the sake of it and as a result do a terrible job of c ...

Re: Output Platform: A Desk for Composers
I have a feeling this is the best all-rounder design they could do, and it’s probably a bit of an experiment for them. A jumping off point. It hits a very appealing price/performance ratio that likely covers a lot of peoples’ needs (I don’t think 88 key controllers are as widespread as they used to b ...

Output Platform: A Desk for Composers
This is pretty sweet—makers of Rev, Exhale, etc.—have made a desk! Check it out: https://output.com/products/platform Lots of nifty features too. Cable management included, split-middle keyboard tray with included risers that you can use to lift the board up higher if needed, rack spaces, and what lo ...

Softube Gets Into the Tape Game
They've introduced Softube Tape: https://youtu.be/llbMoLC2Bn8 More info: https://www.softube.com/index.php?id=tape Looks like three models with a decent array of more advanced controls for those who want to tweak. Nothing too fancy, but I'll be interested to see how it sounds compared to Slate's ...

Re: Thrill – A collaboration of Native Instruments and Galaxy Instruments
I've just made my way through the demo video and I'm really impressed. It sounds great and the degree and method of control is way better than trying to bend static recordings to fit.
Congrats on the release!

Re: Reason 9.5: Introducing VSTs in Reason
Reason is an entirely self-contained musical environment that's almost impossibly stable, very lean, and scales well from "I want to play a piano patch" to "I want to use custom routing to sequence a crazy combo instrument". It's the most reliable DAW on the market, but it's also not a DAW in the ...

Re: Korg Gadget (now also for Mac)
I adore Gadget, so seeing it on Mac is enticing. The gadgets are each fun and quirky...it's less of a recording environment like Garageband and more like a self-contained musical workstation like Reason. Except you can use these plugins elsewhere without the ReWire hassle. Anyway, the M1 and other ...

Re: OT Metropolis Ark 2 Teaser
My understanding is that this is ONLY the softer side. Ark 1 is the loud bombast, Ark 2 is the mellow grumbly, brooding stuff. So together you theoretically have a full dynamics palette.

This came as a surprise...I still regret not grabbing the original at its intro price, and now there's already a part 2 focused on low dynamics:

Re: Vengeance Producer Suite - Avenger synth
I didn't mean to disparage its capabilities—it looks very powerful indeed—I meant that it's appealing to those getting into this in the sense that they don't already have 15 other synths with overlapping functionality, so this covers a lot of bases. It's almost a no-brainer. For those of us with an e ...

Re: Vengeance Producer Suite - Avenger synth
Can't say I'm seeing much here that expands upon what I can accomplish with the Komplete synths, Serum, and Omni (ignoring the shelves of other synths I have lying around various hard drives) but the fact that it covers a lot of ground in a single well-built plugin is very appealing for folks just ...
