Highly Recommended

In our ongoing series ‘Highly Recommended’, this week, two strong candidates for centerfold presentation in Plug-in Porn Weekly: Three-Body Tech’s SpecCraft and Audiopunks’ The Great British Spring . Plus a third plug-in, also very good, that you might find strangely interesting as well. _____ https: ...

Synthogy / Ivory III American D

Synthogy have released the Ivory III upgrade of what may well be their best-liked grand piano: the American D . The new version is powered by the Ivory III RGB-engine, meaning that it now has clever solutions for seamless velocity-to-timbre transitions, advanced resonance implementation, multiple ...

Re: ISW Tokyo Scoring Strings 2.0 - a massive update!

Not only has the original TSS v1 release thread been renamed — took me quite a while before that dawned on me — but it’s a 103 page thread I had to wade through in order to find my post. I’d almost given up looking for it, but I eventually found it on page 80. After this however, I couldn’t be bother ...

Re: ISW Tokyo Scoring Strings 2.0 - a massive update!

I read on VI-C of a number of people having problems with the download and the installation, and the fact that the cello patches open in demo-mode. I experienced nothing of that: quick download (just over an hour), smooth installation and every cello patch I tried (didn’t try them all yet) opens j ...

(...) I'm glad you managed to get SPAT Revolution working on your system by the way. Gives me hope that when I'm finally feeling masochistic enough to try again, the outcome will be something other than the frustrations of the past. Well, the combination LogicPro + SPAT Revolution still isn't a ...

Yeah, I don't understand the choice of demos either. But about that 'room': there is no room. There is the suggestion of a 'room' through the use of multiple short delays. Short delays acting as a sort of ... early reflections. It's a really great technique. I use short delays — anywhere between 40 a ...

Thanks very, very much, Luke , Guy , srkrishnan and Linos ! Glad it’s been informative. Re: VILabs / Modern D

I’m having some trouble with SPAT v3 since a few weeks. I’m not sure what started it, some update or other I guess — I have a strong feeling it’s Sonoma (the latest version of Logic + Sonoma is without a doubt the most bug-ridden, unreliable software contraption I’ve ever had to deal with) — but the ...

Re: VILabs / Modern D

You shouldn’t do that, Linos. Compare it to the real thing, I mean. Guy (and, I’m sure, lots of other people too) always protests incredulously when I say that a sampled piano — even a very good one — can only give us 5-10% of what a real instrument can give, but I stick with that percentage. (I’m ev ...

Re: VILabs / Modern D

I keep buying VI Steinways (and others), and I keep going back to Vintage D. Probably by now a couple thousand dollars worth of pianos collected in my VI graveyard, and I'm sure that's light compared to many here. As Luke said, your endorsement counts for a lot here, Piet. I may yet buckle before ...

Re: NI Kontakt 8 and Komplete 15 - RELEASED

Jay, not sure this still works in K8, but it certainly did work in previous versions: set Kontakt up visually the way you like, and then, from Logic's plug-in menu, do 'Save As Default'. That always loads Kontakt just as you configured it. (Maybe K8 has a preference setting for this which also works ...

Re: VIR2 / Mojo Upright Bass

Thanks, srkrishnan! I still prefer the naked content of the Premier — the raw sound and the character of the sampled instrument, I mean — but there's no arguing with the fact that this Vir2 Mojo is a much more advanced, deeper and better Kontakt-library. Compared to the Vir2 Mojo, the Premier is a si ...

Well, on paper, that should have been one of the kits included with Toontrack’s “Elliot Scheiner / State Of The Art” SDX. Scheiner was, after all in part responsible, as co-engineer and mixer, for why “Aja” sounds as fantastic as it does. One of the official “State Of The Art” demos — the first one i ...

I’m not a fan of sequenced shaker and tambourine tracks — no matter how many options you get for humanizing the performance, it always sounds wrong to me —, but if you don’t have such misgivings, Shaka is a good choice. 48h Flash-sale (50-60% discounts) over at Klevgrand

There's a 48 hours price drop at Klevgrand, offering reductions of 50-60% on all of their plug-ins (except the latest one 'Revolv').
Little cherry on top: with any purchase you get their "super-heavy premium compression plugin" 'Richter' (usually $69.99) for free.

Re: Insanity Samples - The Stein

I bought it for the sole reason they did a Thelonious Monk demo. It’s good. Or good-ish anyway. But not great. What’s there is well-sampled, it’s got a nice tone and all that, but the problem, for me, is: there’s not enough of what I feel is required to make a great sampled piano: quite a few samples ...

Re: AcousticSamples Clarinets V2

Yes, nice update. The reed instruments were updated a few days ago as well. The oboes -- there's three of them -- still are bit problematic I find, a few registers in some of the other instruments still sound not quite right either to my ears and the lowest region of the bassoons and bassclarinets ...
