Re: Abbey Road Orchestra - Violins 1 announced
I'm in for Pro, and agree with everything Linos and Tanuj wrote. All the core aspects a library needs to do well... this does well. It's pleasant to see a release without some kind of obvious corner cut.

Re: Abbey Road Orchestra - Violins 1 announced
Agree with you Guy & Linos. It doesn't sound romantic or unique, rather more generic/standard/neutral. Trying to be the next SSS/HWS not the next Vista/Soaring Strings. The resource use is definitely a concern. Hopefully Core will be designed to work well on mid-tier computers. I love the ambition ...

Re: Cinestrings Pro: first listen
MUSIO itself works great now. I didn't have any bugs or crashes with it towards the end of my sub. They've also made good progress with porting the old Cinesamples libraries to it. I think they have the ENTIRE lineup of old CineSamples orchestra libraries on there now.. And the price is amazing for ...

Re: Cinesamples Industry Brass and Musio subscription platform
I'm very sold on this after the 14 day free trial, I think they nailed this one. 1. Yes , it's another dumbass subscription service... But , the value you get (IF you don't own many CineSamples libraries) is through the roof. I own CineBrass & Strings CORE, but still plan to get a lot of use from ...

Re: Spitfire / Appassionata ("Impulse Legato" Strings)
I really like these. In fact, too busy having fun with them to write a proper review yet. Basically my old template was mostly CSS, plus CS2 for less vibrato-heavy legatos, and SSS for extended articulations. Appassionata is joining that template and taking over a few tasks from CSS and CS2. That is ...

Re: CineSamples : 2022
I think it's an overall positive development that companies are abandoning Kontakt, as long as the new alternatives are reliable & stable. They didn't show an instrument control GUI and they've said on VIC that this downloads a different set of samples from the Kontakt versions - they don't share ...

Re: Incoming / major True Strike and Symphobia updates
What would be the closest comparison for this library? i.e. people who don't use TrueStrike, what do they use instead? Spitfire Percussion? Cineperc?
I'm also curious where this was recorded and if it's a stage or a concert hall.

Re: SoundTheory / Gullfoss Master
When I tried the demo I found it quite good too. I didn't buy it because, to my ears, the 'pre-programmed mixing engineer' has a sonic taste that does not quite align with my own. See, Gullfoss has (or at least: had when I tried it) quite a strong tendency towards a bright mix. Very bright. Too ...

Re: Orchestral Tools: Tom Holkenborg's Percussion
To explain myself nicely, I'll give you an example. Here is how my custom davul (tupan) library sound: etc. You certainly have a valid point - but there's a good chance Holkenborg wasn't going for a traditional tupan sound - but instead wanted one aspect of the tupan (the main strike) to integrate ...

Re: VSL Synchron Elite Strings (Chamber Ensemble)
I think just about anyone could do much better than this with CSS, Vista, or possibly Sable. Maybe even Nashville Strings. This sounds 2007 tier to me the 'articulation-stiching' effect is overriding any other impact the music could have!

Re: EastWest / Hollywood Orchestra OPUS Edition
There are some basic red lines for a sampler, things like not blasting your ears, not crashing VEPro, not irretrievably corrupting your project files etc. so the negative reception of OPUS is pretty fair IMO since those reported white noise blasts are SCARY. Instant dealbreaker for me, no matter how ...

Re: VSL Synchron Elite Strings (Chamber Ensemble)
The realism here is considerably behind CSS in my impression. Actually, behind the recent Nashville Strings as well. No arguing with that pristine beautiful mix though. Synchron always sounds great. But exactly as you said @Arbee, these transitions feel lumpy like a 2007 era library.

Re: Modern Scoring Strings (aka LASS 3)
This seems very much like the situation with MSB. These libraries should be great on paper but the sound just doesn't grab me as much as it should.

Re: Black Friday Post Mortem - How'd You Do?
$0 this time. My 64gb VEPro machine is already full of good stuff. I was tempted by some plugin deals though. All my pennies are going into the piggy bank for Cinematic Studio Woodwinds (which sounds top notch) and Abbey Road Modular Orchestra (having already got the starter library on the intro ...

Re: EW Hollywood Orchestra Opus Edition, plus Orchestrator and new player
Well, I'm pretty down on this now. Q1 2021 to get more brass and strings recorded in EW St. 1... or wait and get them recorded at Abbey Road. On top of that they started over with PLAY, ceding the only real advantage they had as a developer (the fact that they were the first to depart from Kontakt ...

Re: Spitfire @ Abbey Road !/?
Dunno, their stuff seems pretty planned out to me. SSO used to be their top of the line - then it got repackaged and a price reduction - eventually it will get the aux mics and some upgrades but they're done with it. The Albions and all the other AIR libraries are auxiliary. next they do BBCSO ...

Re: Spitfire @ Abbey Road !/?
You have to ignore their marketing guff and look at the straight specs. BBCSO was always a basic product, just higher than an Albion really. It was an easy pass IMO after hearing some demos. Sure you can write some great music with it, but it wouldn't hold up if you tried to synthestrate everything ...

Re: Spitfire @ Abbey Road !/?
I totally get the "just tell me when you actually have a product" approach to marketing. Their approach turns me off a bit as well. However, this just might be a monumental step for sampling. If they've done something SERIOUS with this opportunity (like an Albion or SSO style product, not just ...

Spitfire @ Abbey Road !/?
So Spitfire sent out a marketing email with a vague countdown to tomorrow morning, but the image is very clearly of Abbey Road Studio 1. As well, Abbey Road has also "announced an announcement" for tomorrow Oct 22. Putting the pieces together this may be some kind of orchestral product recorded at ...

Re: JXL Brass - Orchestral Tools
The only demo that has truly impressed me musically is prodigalson's on VI-C here: https://vi-control.net/community/attachments/jxlb-soft-test-mp3.25750/ It's got a lovely musicality & consistency at the lowest dynamics that I struggle to get from my current brass. Having more "modwheel room" down ...
