Re: Woodwinds
image.png This is what most of the patches for the newly recorded instruments look like, yes. Some have p and ff, some mp and ff, some mf and ff - but yeah, you're stuck with two layers for the most part. A quiet and a loud. There may be exceptions, I haven't checked every instrument and patch. Wel...
Re: Woodwinds
What do you think of Berlin Woodwinds? Do they offer something that the other offers absolutely can't do? 'Absolutely' is a strong word, but yes, kinda 😉 I still get good mileage out of Berlin Woodwinds, much for the same reasons as ZeeCount. It's a reasonably detailed collection and it all just bl...

Re: Do you use ear buds?
I use earbuds a lot too. A lot . Almost constantly when I'm out and about, at the gym, at the store, doing chores, falling asleep in bed, and so on. I've tried regular on/over ear headphones and I can't stand it because they're so big and clumsy, while a decent set of in-ear buds I forget they're ev...

Re: Unique plugins
You mean for the average composer or in general? I wasn't getting the sense of it being quite abandonware but I'm not one to keep up with Flux's dealings much. I was referring only to the old SPAT v3, the simple plugin version we knew and loved, which has not been updated, sold or supported for a g...

Re: Unique plugins
I'm on Windows and have version 3.5.29.46205 installed, VST2 x64 and all. Last I checked - which wasn't that long ago - it was still installable from the Flux software hub, although I vaguely remember it being sort of hidden away. Though I'm sad to say I've long since given up on using it because it...

Re: Cubase MIDI modification
Minuet in G by Christian Petzold (it's in the notebook for Anna Magdalena Bach). I was surprised to notice that I can apparently read the piano roll as fluently as notation. It is indeed! And bonus points for not ascribing authorship to Bach himself 😉 It was one of the first things I learned to pla...

Re: Cubase MIDI modification
Actually it is possible to print the output of midi effects. Look in the inspector panel and drag that weird bar looking thing - effects that are above it will get recorded into the track, effects below will transform midi going out from the track, if that makes sense. midi-fx.gif That's how it look...

I'm intrigued. What does 'more or less' correctly mean?
Still not a 100% reliable then, I take it?

Re: Cubase 13 [RELEASED]
Finally got a chance to sit down with it for a bit. So far it's a mixed bag. On the highlighting issue; I went into the settings and turned the level of color tint on unselected tracks way down, and selected tracks way up. image.png I think this is fine? I also changed the overall colors a bit, as I...

Re: Cubase 13
We can't possibly know that now, can we? And those that do can't tell. But if information has gone out to retailers I'm guessing it will be sooner rather than later. I'm actually somewhat excited by the apparent focus on UI changes, some of which - like the inspector - has needed an overhaul for a l...

Re: [NEW] VSL Duality Strings
'Rough and raw' can be very illuminating and revealing, I find. Many thanks for the examples and thoughts! I feel like the Synchron string family was off to a troubled start. I have Strings 1 and Pro and roll my own presets using patches from both. There's a lot I like about them - they're very flex...

Re: Orchestral Tools / Berlin Woodwinds Bundle for SINE
Those are all fair criticisms, I think. I had a really miserable time with Sine in its earlier days too, but for me it has now reached the point of being quite usable. Even though I miss some quality of life features like CC control of mics, on balance I now prefer it to Capsule, mainly due to resou...

Re: EastWest / Hollywood Orchestra OPUS Edition
I certainly agree about standardizing the CCs. But what's worse is there still seems to be a bug, at least with the strings, where the volume of the release tails is hardwired to CC11, so that even if you reassign the dynamics controller to CC1 - like practically every other library in existence inc...

Re: Cubase 12 released [DEMO and 12.0.30 NOW AVAILABLE]
I jumped too. First with the manual installer which did indeed cause authorization issues - but after an uninstall, magic reboot, update to the Assistant, a few mystical chants, dances and prayers, and then another attempt at installing via the app, all is well again. Haven't had much time to play w...

Re: Orchestral Tools / updated Berlin Strings + True Consordino
True, I'm not loving Spitfire's player either - kinda clunky and inefficient, but at least it's never crashed on me or anything of that sort. But the UI design is... well... let's perhaps not go there 😉 On the other hand, VSL's Synchron Player is really good, I find - it's not my favorite sound in t...

Re: Orchestral Tools / updated Berlin Strings + True Consordino
That sounds pretty good overall, I think. First violins could use some more molto vibrato and expressive oomph in some places maybe, but I guess that's what they added in the recent update? Amusingly, I've also been working on a rendering of Anakin's Theme here recently as a technical/template build...

Re: Orchestral Tools / updated Berlin Strings + True Consordino
I'm considering it. I can get a pretty good deal as I already have everything in the bundle except the Con Sordino and Symphonic Strings. I don't really need another symphonic-sized string library (not that that's ever stopped anyone) but I'm sure I would find uses for it. But the con sordino stuff ...

Re: Cubase 12 released [DEMO NOW AVAILABLE]
Yeah, I get the same feeling. I sort of envision the underlying code base as being an unmaintainable mess with decades worth of legacy baggage and weird optimization strategies that perhaps made sense once but no longer do. The amount and type of problems certainly give that impression. But I sort o...

Re: Cubase 12 released [DEMO NOW AVAILABLE]
Well, I was one of those having problems with 12.0.10, especially with VEP. Every time I select a track pointing to an instance everything freezes for five seconds - select more than one and it freezes for longer, sometimes indefinitely. It's not the old Asio Guard problem although it looks somewhat...

Re: Elicenser Discontinued Jan 1 2022
Thanks guys. If it was just the DAW taking a few more seconds to load it wouldn't be a big deal, but this seems to multiply across every instance of the player. As an example I made a small test project with about ten-ish instances of Synchron Player which took about six minutes to load. After stick...

So.... what's everyone's take on iLok Cloud vs. the USB key? I'm no dongle-lover (but let's perhaps not get into that ;)) so I was intrigued to try the cloud thing, but there seems to be an issue with substantially increased load times. And every now and then it fails to authorize entirely unless I ...
