Re: RIP Finale
Anyway, I just never got on with earlier Dorico releases. I've downloaded the current demo, we'll see what we will see I guess, but I am hoping I can figure it out this time around. Of course that might also mean migrating to Cubase, which I'd really rather not do. One of the issues for people ...
Re: Woodwinds
On the rare occasion that i have to do demos I use the SWAM Woods, as they are the easiest and quickest to use, and there is nothing they can't do. However, I can understand that some people wouldn't like the sound, and that the recording studio sound is more important than the musicality or content ...

And the latest thing I did with Bernd is The Acolyte (don't shoot the messenger) which you can probably find something online from.

Re: VSL / Synchron Solo Strings (Violin & Cello)
I've worked with all of the engineers. This (from the VSL competition) was recorded there. This was recorded by Tristan Linton. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y-fJ3G9l_BQ&ab_channel=2ndFoundationMusic And if you want something slightly more string-y, try this, recorded by Martin Weismayr. https ...

Re: VSL / Synchron Solo Strings (Violin & Cello)
With these solo strings, I'm not even sure that's what's bothering me. The phrasing is certainly a big part of what I don't like. Her playing is so elegant, and the samples sound stiff and awkward by comparison. That's what I think about all solo samples, and there is little you can do to change ...

Re: VSL / Synchron Solo Strings (Violin & Cello)
Don't get me wrong, I don't think there's anything wrong with VSL's recordings. It seems to me that Bernd Mazagg, VSL's chief recording engineer, has a modern recording aesthetic that emphasises the high frequencies. It would be interesting if you were to hear some of the music recorded there to ...

Re: VSL / Synchron Solo Strings (Violin & Cello)
Linos, why do you say that you do not like the aesthetics of the VSL recording engineers? I am curious. The recordings sound very good to me by any standards and certainly the same engineers record all of the music at the Synchron stage which is used in thousands of recordings for film and ...

From those demos, imagination is all we have. Perfectly horrid sounding strings, to my ears.Guy Rowland wrote: ↑Mar 25, 2024 6:59 pm

Re: Abbey Road Orchestra - Violins 1 announced
I tend to steer clear of these discussions these days, but whilst I don't hear anything wrong with these violins, there is nothing particularly different about them either, and, having conducted at Abbey Road many times, they sound nothing like a real violin section playing there. So I would say ...

Re: Orchestral Cover Rights
This is not only complicated, but also country specific. However my understanding of the basics is: 1. You normally need permission to do an arrangement 2. You certainly can't sell any arrangements without permission from the Publisher of the original 3. Education can come under fair use/fair ...

Re: VSL Synchron Elite Strings (Chamber Ensemble)
Good for music like from Abel Korzeniowski, Barrington Pheloung, Jim Parker.... Oh dear lord, I have no clue who any of those people are. Man, I need to get out of my bubble more. Really? Abel Korzeniowski I can understand, but the other two are your era, and are, pretty much, British TV ...

Not really. There was a "gotcha" in terms of the way it's designed, so we abandoned using it very early on.

Yep, I didn't buy anything sample related. Bought a load of paper, ink and stationary though. Sessions really eat through paper.
Oh, and added a couple more languages to my online learning.

Re: Spitfire @ Abbey Road !/?
Interesting that Abbey Road Studios has done a complete about turn about recording samples there. I wonder if the pandemic has helped them change their collective minds. Does this mean, you can complete your sampling project at Abbey Road :D I doubt it. They probably agreed a partnership with SF ...

Re: NI lays off 20% of global workforce and tease new platform [update 14 Sept]
Kontakt is not a dead end. It's company's biggest earner as enabler of most content in Komplete. It's going to be updated for newer operating systems as required. I wouldn't worry. Ultimately you can always freeze the OS, as Guy already said. Or use Windows, because it's gonna work on there for at ...

Re: NI lays off 20% of global workforce and tease new platform [update 14 Sept]
Most of the shows I have played are using RMS Keyboards for playing the parts. The other option I know of (I know the aMD for Book of Mormon) - is Apple's MainStage. Only for Apple Products, but I read an article from the MD of Howard Jones - and they run all the key sounds and the light cues on 1 ...

Re: NI lays off 20% of global workforce and tease new platform [update 14 Sept]
You mean you need Kontakt for house sound as well as for the players employed by the show? Edit-I see you answered Guy, but it still seems strange. Freeze the OS, no? The show needs 6 computers. Always dangerous relying on something that is out of date, in my view. For a small home studio, it's not ...

Re: NI lays off 20% of global workforce and tease new platform [update 14 Sept]
I may be misunderstanding Daryl, but most theatre shows run on QLab.. Not the keyboard players. I need to be able to deliver a score that includes the keyboard parts with samples. The ideal would be to have it all under the hood, but for now, Kontakt is the best bet, as getting a licence is easy ...
