Re: Steinberg 50% off sale
Noteperformer works with Dorico Mike. Noteperformer is one of the most important programs for me, so I wouldn't want to miss it. I bought Dorico, but I will probably wait to activate until after Dorico 6 has been released. If the Steinberg upgrade trick works, my license should activate Dorico 6 then.

Re: Steinberg 50% off sale
One question about the update for Cubase. I am on Cubase 13. On sale is the update from Cubase 12 Pro to 13 Pro. If I buy this, can I use it later on to upgrade to Cubase 14? I'm unsure because the text reads 'update from Cubase 12'. Honestly not sure Linos... That's the gamble. I think I will just...

Re: Steinberg 50% off sale
As a Cubase user, Dorico is 168 CHF for me. Good offer, I think I'll actually jump ship from my version of Sibelius that I haven't updated in years.
Re: Woodwinds
Wait, what? BWW Revive has only two dynamic layers? So you can either have all the dynamic layers (Legacy) or all mic positions (Revive), but not both? Who dreams up this stuff? That's the sort of inconsistencies that I've come to associate with Orchestral Tools. Why would they do that? It just make...
Re: Woodwinds
All good, Thomas. I appreciate the help! You did not mislead in any way. It's good that the sound of the VI libraries is preserved in the Synchron-ized version. It's basically a port to the new player plus the instrument specific MIR IRs. As I prefer the VI player and don't need the MIR IRs I am in ...
Re: Woodwinds
How do you like the Synchron-ized version Thomas? I prefer the VI player over the Synchron player. And I am not a fan of the Synchron Stage sound. Using dry samples pre-processed with reverb makes no sense to me. The advantage of dry samples is the flexibility you have to add the reverb that you nee...
Re: Woodwinds
Thank you for pointing that out Guy. It's still on the basic side for short articulations. Four or five variations are the minimum for scherzo-esque music. Most libraries have the very short duration covered with staccatissimo/staccato, and then the sustain. But there are so many variations in betwe...
Re: Woodwinds
Fluffy Woodwinda sound nice. Another package for lyrical writing as it seems. For short articulations I only see staccato. Not enough for my needs. Cinesamples is a good idea. I should check them out. I have Cineperc and the solo strings, and both are useful. The SWAM Woodwinds look good. Similar to...

What are you all using for orchestral woodwinds these days? There are so many choices, and I am still not confident that I can mockup all the music I want with satisfactory results. I'll share my thoughts on the libraries I own and/or know something about. I'd be grateful if you'd share your thought...

Re: 42 GB of strings for $39
Supposedly rather bad. But the real question is can they do something better than the libraries that you have? In my case I'm quite certqin that it's not the case. I'm happy to save the money and the time to learn a lacklustre library.

Javelin Strings - upcoming library (short articulations)
Could have sworn that I posted about this before. Alas, I can't find it. So here we go: https://javelinaudio.com/ Javelin Audio is working on a strings library that focuses on short articulations. Recorded at Trackdown Studios (same venue as Cinematic Studio Strings). It will offer more than 26 shor...

Re: IRCAM SPAT Revolution $99
Thank you ZeeCount. Spat v3 was so flexible in comparison to this. It's sad that IRCAM has restricted our options so much. Spat Revolution could be fine on smaller projects with few instruments. In an orchestral setting I don't see a place for it. It would be too time consuming to use.

Re: IRCAM SPAT Revolution $99
@ZeeCount What does the second instance of rectangles do in your picture? Why does 'Flute 1' go to 'Flute 1' and then to 'Room'? And if I read the image correctly, you only get a stereo return to your DAW. Is that correct? So you get just one spatialised return for all the instruments you feed into ...

Re: IRCAM SPAT Revolution $99
The limitation of 'Essential' is that it processes only 32 channels (= 16 stereo channels), if I am not mistaken. My main concern is the workflow though. It's not a VST, but a standalone program that connects to your DAW through an audio driver. The processed audio is then routed back to your DAW, w...

Re: VSL VI range reaches end of life
It was bound to happen sooner or later. On several occasions VSL have said that they will not abandon their VI series. With the port to the Synchron Player ('Synchron-ize') they are keeping that promise, sort of. I am a bit sad to see the VI Player go. I find it easier to work with than the Synchron...

Re: Unique plugins
Are you all really just usinf one legato speed for Cinematic Studio Strings? I find it so easy and well worth it to use all three. I use Ihnoc's Kontakt script to automatically compensate for the delay. 1) load Ihnoc's script in your Kontakt instances with CSS 2) set the specified negative delay for...

Re: VSL / Synchron Solo Strings (Violin & Cello)
It would be interesting if you were to hear some of the music recorded there to see if it sounds the same to you. And if it doesn't, try to figure out where the bit you don't like occurs. Good idea Daryl! Do you have something to share that you recorded at Synchron Stage? Do you work with Bernd Maz...

Re: VSL / Synchron Solo Strings (Violin & Cello)
Don't get me wrong, I don't think there's anything wrong with VSL's recordings. It seems to me that Bernd Mazagg, VSL's chief recording engineer, has a modern recording aesthetic that emphasises the high frequencies. For me, it's most noticeable in the ensemble strings (the various Synchron Strings ...

Re: VSL / Synchron Solo Strings (Violin & Cello)
Has anyone bought these and is willing to share their opinion? I am looking for solo strings that work in the context of a string quartet. In my opinion, that's where the shortcomings of the samples are most apparent. I don't expect them to be much better than previous offerings. But I am hopeful th...

Re: VSL / Synchron Solo Strings (Violin & Cello)
It's an impressive release. I wouldn't have posted this, as I can only repeat myself. But these libraries deserve comments. Even slightly critical ones. I love these libraries on paper. It's a great selection of articulations. The sampling depth seems great. And VSL always pays attention to detail a...

Re: The Real Reason Music Is Getting Worse
This is a highly convoluted video. For one thing, is music really getting worse? As you write, Guy, this is a claim that isn't even discussed for a second in the video, let alone really reflected upon. If you think music is 'getting worse', you should first state clearly what it is you think is wors...
