Re: Berlin Solo Strings - Orchestral Tools
Sine is also a negative factor for me. It's clumsy, it forces you into a certain workflow, it lacks certain features. Other features are implemented in a way that makes them basically useless (think polymaps, for example). For me, Sine is a mess. However, Berlin Symphonic Strings sit in my template ...

Re: Berlin Solo Strings - Orchestral Tools
Has anyone bought Berlin Solo Strings? User demos are slow to come in and I'd like to hear how far the edginess can be tamed. Listening again to the mic positions in the walkthrough I posted above, I don't know why some interest lingers. It must be because good solo string samples are hard to come ...

Re: oops! AudioBro 1, Bill 0
Let us know how you like MSS Bill! I like that it comes with three mic mixes, close, stage, and surround. The one mic mix in LASS3 sounds a bit difficult to work with. But I do like the bite and directness in LASS3. It's not a sound for everything. But when you need rough and edgy, LASS has it. MSS ...

Re: oops! AudioBro 1, Bill 0
No tips to share Bill. I don't have any Audiobro library. But I'm curious to know why you chose Modern Scoring Strings over LASS 3. The two are so similar in terms of features that I'd have a hard time choosing.

Re: Wave based reverbs?
Tomi's impulse responses do sound good. I don't mind the dramatics in the video. He links to the science he relies on, and shows the results that he gets. That's the important points. I am following this with some interest. We won't get new technology. In the end it will be a convolution plugin with ...

Re: Berlin Solo Strings - Orchestral Tools
If the walkthrough is any indication, I don't think so. Listen to the Decca Tree and A/B mics: https://youtu.be/CERuk6F9Q7I?feature=shared&t=1088 They are very, very bright. That's not how a string quartet is supposed to sound. If even the more ambient mics are this bright, I am not sure you can get ...

Re: Berlin Solo Strings - Orchestral Tools
I hear the edginess too. The climax of the trailer is so shrill it hurts my ears. The same happens in Claire Wickes' demo. I will wait for user demos and walkthroughs

Berlin Solo Strings - Orchestral Tools
Orchestral Tools releases Berlin Solo Strings:
https://www.orchestraltools.com/berlin-solo-strings
Intro price is €299 until January 5. After that it goes to the regular price of €399.
I hope this one is more carefully planned and executed than their Berlin Strings First Chairs library.

Re: Black Friday 2024 hot tips
Audiobro LASS 3 is 199$:
https://audiobro.com/la-scoring-strings-3/
I don't know if this is a special Black Friday discount or if it has become a regular price. It's the full library, including the con sordino expansion. Lots of content at a very good price.

Re: Black Friday 2024 hot tips
The Harmonic Subtones' solo strings are available at Best Service for €99.5 apiece: https://www.bestservice.com/de/emotional_cello.html I don't think that they have ever been lower priced than that. How is the Emotional Viola? I have researched the Cello and Violin, but don't know how good the viola ...

Re: Performance samples Pacific Woodwinds released
When Performance Samples announce upcoming libraries, I am often intrigued. Then, when the libraries are released, there has always been at least one deal breaker for me. So I don't own any of their libraries. I was interested in Pacific Solo Violin and Cello. The demos sounded really good. But then ...

Re: OT 50% off pretty much everything
It's sad when a company puts so much effort into creating something new, only to get worse results than what they had. Unfortunately, you can't buy the Main Series bundle in Kontakt with OT. Complete the bundle is not available for Kontakt, only Sine. They do offer the individual parts of the main ...

Re: OT 50% off pretty much everything
Holy, I just noticed something. Compare the mockup above with this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ONT2h25MXyc Same piece, same library. The one above is in Sine, this one is in Kontakt. What a difference! The Kontakt demo sounds so much better to me. It's actually a demo that sells the library ...

Re: OT 50% off pretty much everything
Thank you Nobody. I have recently changed my approach to mixing. I now rely much more on the Decca Tree, using other mics as a supplement only where necessary. For this I like libraries with a natural ambience similar to a concert hall. Air Lyndhurst and Teldex are good for this. Trackdown ...

Re: OT 50% off pretty much everything
To all of you who own Berlin Woodwinds and/or Berlin Brass, how often do you actually use them? I am pretty well covered for woodwinds. I have VSL VI Woodwinds, Spitfire Symphonic Woodwinds, Spitfire BBCSO, Cinematic Studio Woodwinds, VWinds Double Reeds, some of the Berlin Soloists, Hollywood Winds ...

Re: OT 50% off pretty much everything
If I buy the Kontakt version of Berlin Woodwinds today, do I still get Legacy or just Revive? And if you get Legacy, does it have different mic positions or just one mix? I found out again that Revive only has two dynamic layers, but Legacy does not have all the mics. That puts a damper on my ...

Re: OT 50% off pretty much everything
To state the obvious, at 50% off, Orchestral Tools' libraries are about the same price as competing products without the discount. The Kontakt version of Berlin Woodwinds is tempting to me. It's one of the few woodwind libraries with two flutes, two oboes, etc. What's holding me back is Berlin ...

Re: EUCON 2024.10 huge update
Ah, I may be reading a lot of your posts about Eucon soon, Guy. There is an old Euphonix MC Mix on sale cheaply in my area. As far as I understand it works the same as the later Avid Artist Mix. If that's the case and it's in good condition, I'll buy it.

Re: EUCON 2024.10 huge update
Thank you Guy. Somebody posted a script on the Steinberg forums that brinks auto bank to Faderport. It's all dreadfully complicated though. With this Eucon update it seems to be much simpler now with Avid devices. That and the smaller profile might make an Artist Mix the better choice for me. I'll ...

Re: EUCON 2024.10 huge update
All working for you Guy? Now I know that you are the expert to ask about Avid/Eucon. But the Avid S1 is too expensive for me, and the Artist Mix is EOL. For the same price as an old and used Artist Mix I can buy a new Faderport 8. I've read on Vi-Control that the Faderport can switch between mixer ...

Nothing terribly exciting. I am going to find out if your upgrade-trick still works Guy. I bought the upgrade from 12 to 13 during the summer sale, and didn't activate it. If all goes well it will upgrade to 14 now.

Re: How to use mic positions in sample libraries
Here is the promised comparison with a real-life example. I'll call the two mixes 'Decca Mix' (adheres to the principles in the opening post) and 'Cinema Mix' (with close mics on every instrument/section). The differences are subtle, but audible. To my ears the 'Decca Mix' has more depth, and it ...

Re: How to use mic positions in sample libraries
Interesting story, Bill. It seems that your practical approach has led you to the same point that my theoretical approach has led me to. My machine is powerful enough to handle a large template with multiple mics. Not having to compromise on mic selection made me stop and think. What do I really ...
