Re: María Dueñas
Maria Dueñas is exceptionally talented. Even at such a young age, her sound and technique are impeccable. In September she played Bruch's 1st Violin Concerto with us. She's such an amazing musician and it was a joy to hear her live in concert. She's also modest and kind. It will be interesting to ...

Orchestral Tools - Berlin Series restructured
Orchestral Tools have restructured their Berlin Series and lowered the prices considerably: https://www.orchestraltools.com/berlin-orchestra-compare https://www.orchestraltools.com/berlin-series I am not 100% sure if Full, Pro, and Max only differ in the libraries that they include, or if Full has ...

Re: The Rick Beato Hans Zimmer interview
This is probably a spoilsport position, but my enthusiasm to listen to his interviews has cooled noticeably since his deal with Saudi Arabia. I'm much more interested in what Raman Djawadi has to say. Unfortunately interviews with him are harder to find.

Re: Emotive Woodwinds - Fracture Sounds
It's not that bad, is it? They are not orchestral woodwinds. The room is to small for that. For chamber music and tv music I could imagine using them successfully if they had more dynamic range. But then again, they are up against Cinematic Studio Woodwinds for that.

Somehow I missed this release https://fracturesounds.com/product/emotive-woodwind-soloists/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VR_nf5BSFtg Fracture Sounds Emotive Woodwinds. The library has many clever features. You can set the legato delay to match your playing. All other articulations are delayed by ...

Re: Quick tip for Ryzen users
Thank you for testing! That's interesting. I don't notice a louder fan on my project so far, and in everyday use my system is silent anyway. So there is not much of a tradeoff for me. I am not surprised that it's system dependent. As you write Guy, it's probably only worth trying if you need more ...

Re: Quick tip for Ryzen users
If I remember correctly, PBO was set to 'Auto' for me. I switched it to 'Enabled'. XMP was off.
If your PBO was set to 'off', let us know if switching it on made a noticeable difference.

Quick tip for Ryzen users
Just a quick tip for AMD Ryzen users. I am a fairly average user. I am not a tweaker, but I can find my way around a BIOS. Anyway, I am working on a mockup with a large romantic orchestra. Lots of instruments playing at the same time, all with multiple mic positions. When playing back the tutti ...

Re: Oldies but REAL goodies
The Clariphonic is also at the top of my list. I use it in one way or another on most of my mixes. Sometimes on a single instrument, sometimes on the mix bus. A good rule of thumb is to turn it up to your taste and then turn it down about 30%. It's very easy to overdo it. That's why it's important ...

Re: East West Hollywood Fantasy sections $34
The fantasy orchestra is really quite good. Incredible pricing. I'm astonished that they can make ends meet with prices so low. Apparently it's possible for EastWest.
Re: Melisma
Melisma doesn't use the uploaded music to train the algorithm. But there is also a desktop version. With that, your music stays on your pc and you don't have to upload it to a cloud.
Re: Melisma
A french horn is the next addition to Melisma. I'm still thinking what the potential of this technology is if a single person can get such results. The basis for the training are recordings in a small room. I assume that's why the strings sections don't sound convincing. I can only assume that the ...

Re: Global Film Decline
One of the reasons I don't go to the blockbusters anymore is that there weren't any that really interested me. The Marvel universe or the umpteenth instalment of some superhero film or other just isn't that exciting. The Lord of the Rings trilogy was my most memorable blockbuster cinema experience ...

Re: The Severance theme deconstructed
Stunning and unique music. And the visuals are just as great. I don't know the show, and I'm going to talk about how I feel about the music without googling anything about it. The only background I have is the video Guy linked to. The pedal tone is cleverly used to make sharp dissonances digestible ...

Re: Revisiting the VI Labs Modern D
It's a great instrument. I was a bit worried when I read that they recorded it in a small studio. A concert grand is built for the big stage and fills concert halls with its sound. Why record it in a small studio? But the end result works. For a dry studio sound, the Modern D will be my go-to. For a ...
Re: Melisma
The woodwinds sound very good. The strings don't. I find this approach very interesting. Sample libraries target the market of composers who compose in a DAW. If you compose in notation, you have twice the work. One step is the writing process, and then you have to create the mockup. If Melisma ...
Re: Books II
If you haven't bought the Richard King book, don't. The first chapters are very good. I learned a lot about microphones and microphone configurations. But the second half about mixing I find disappointing. It's light on details, and it's little more than the broadest of introductions to the topic ...

Re: How to use mic positions in sample libraries
Hi Edu, welcome to the forum. The strings are all Cinematic Studio Strings, with Cinematic Studio Solo Strings mixed in at low volume. The woodwinds are Vienna Symphonic VI Woodwinds, Berlin Soloists Oboe, Spitfire BBCSO and Spitfire Symphonic Orchestra. The brass is Sample Modelling French Horn ...
