Re: When you first listen to a song, how important are lyrics to you?

With a few exceptions, I couldn't recite many lyrics from many songs I've ever heard, but I could sing you the guitar or sax solo. I hear, and enjoy, the sonic profile of lyrics when it all locks together so cohesively with the melody and melodic rhythm, but the actual words usually just pass straig...

Re: U-he Zebra Legacy - all the Zebras for €99

Pigments is a good halfway house for me, but Zebra at least it not as harsh and cold as most. I know you get out of a synth what you put in. The reason why Hans uses it for everything is because he knows it inside out. Early next year I might have a bit more time to play around. Life has been ultra...

Re: U-he Zebra Legacy - all the Zebras for €99

If you still cherish those old analogue days of moogs, prophets and oberheims then I can understand why Zebra might leave you a little cold. While I'm the right vintage and background, for some reason I'm not at all nostalgic about synth history. Apart from my Omnisphere swiss army knife, Zebra and ...

Re: Pro Tools Intro (free) and 2022.9 Melodyne ARA2 integration

Arbee - I’m not sure Intro / VE Pro will help all that much as you’ve only got the 8 midi tracks. I’m guessing even with Artist limited to 64 midi tracks you’re imagining not using a template but loading as you go? Yes, apart from doubling up instruments Intro's 8 midi channel will be limiting with...

Re: Pro Tools Intro (free) and 2022.9 Melodyne ARA2 integration

Avid have copped a lot of criticism for going subscription only, but it seems to me that their new tiers make quite a lot of sense. I imagine PT Intro with VE Pro could get you quite some way. I received a free transition to PT Studio when I changed to sub but will downgrade to Artist (and with Sibe...

Re: Thoughts and Plans for 2022

As someone who long ago stopped making music professionally in favor of a business systems career and is now semi-retired, my plan for 2022 is to complete my transition back from corporate to creative (tougher than I thought tbh). It means shutting down my systems consulting business, otherwise it's...

Thanks for the awareness Piet, much appreciated.
First listen sounded very encouraging (full and somewhat different to the usual candidates), will investigate further.

Re: VSL Synchron Elite Strings (Chamber Ensemble)

With all of the recent ambient string libraries I'm starting to doubt my sanity and my experience. I'm sure I know what a sequence of notes under a single bow sounds like, on the same and across strings, but I just hear lumpy transitions that sound nothing like I expect. In response I hear that I'm ...

Re: Spitfire @ Abbey Road !/?

I must confess I'm "one of those" and won't be buying anything else from Spitfire any time soon, despite the Abbey Road intro video sounding rich, warm and truly beautiful. But, I'm not their demographic so we're all good. After decades in company boardrooms I've become very cynical about ...

Re: Mastering The Mix / Bassroom

I must have a closer look at this. I trialled it but struggled first time around to see significant difference between this and doing a broad band sweep with a normal eq.

Re: 8Dio Intimate Studio Strings Released

If I didn't already have VSL Solo and Dimension Strings in a blended small ensemble specifically for this purpose, I might be tempted. I'm happy to see more libraries heading in this more intimate direction.

Re: Spitfire introduces their Studio Series with Spitfire Studio Strings

As others have noted, we are now in the upside down world of Spitfire doing dry and VSL doing wet, and to my ears both obviously way out of their comfort zone and far, far away from their core competence. Oh well, nothing to see here, my money is safe (for a while anyway I guess...)

Re: Vengeance Producer Suite - Avenger synth [1.3.1 FM cross modulation out now]

Based on the enthusiasm I've read here, I've watched and listened intently in an attempt to convince me that I need it. Love the workflow and I can see how well designed and intuitive it would be to use. Sonically though, it doesn't have me so excited, compared say with my Serum and Zebra that seem ...

Re: Adagietto Flash Sale - $48 until the 1st of July

I don't use Adagietto much, but I like the sound so much more than any other ambient string library I've heard (especially the dynamic bowings), that I keep it there for those moments where it can shine.

Re: VSL SYNCHRON-ized Chamber Strings

While the original VSL + MIR concept may not be perfect (I get the "lifeless" criticism etc), I really hope they don't abandon that original concept as it makes sense on so many levels re legato, flexibility with rooms etc. Chasing Spitfire, CSS and everyone else down the instant gratifica...

Re: VSL release Solo Violin 2 and Solo Cello 2

My personal suspicion, which of course may be way off, is that VSL are experimenting behind the scenes, and these are released as part of that experiment. I'm kind of on the fence with both instruments. While I quite like the sound of them they don't blow me away, and I don't have a compelling need ...
