I said it at the time it was released and got excoriated on the other forum. I really believe that often it’s a case of one guy says something, others repeat it, and then it becomes the common opinion. There were two solo violins. The first one was terrible, but the second one, I think is c ...

Re: East West Hollywood Fantasy sections $34

Well they are very different. EWQLSO was recorded in a concert hall by a Classical music engineer while the HO was recorded in a studio by a film engineer. The biggest difference otherwise is that HO has “true legato” while EWQLSO doesn’t. But EWQLSO has a lot more patches, some of which are really g ...

Re: East West Hollywood Fantasy sections $34

nice to know that, I'm pondering the Opus Hollywood Orchestra now, today is around 220€ with the coupon I still believe it is the single best sounding and most complete, if you want a big orchestra rather than a chamber orchestra. And Opus is vastly improved over Play, much easier (for me, at least) ...

Re: Global Film Decline

I used to go to movie theaters a lot. I miss it. It’s definitely more special to see a film with other people as a communal experience. So why do I hardly ever go? 1. It’s gotten expensive, even with senior prices. 2. Often, yes, it’s too loud. 3. My wife has become a stick in the mud and it’s hard t ...

Re: Do you….(revisiting your work)

….occasionally go back and listen to a few years of your work? Dunno about y’all, but I do this once in a while. Sometimes it’s revelatory in a good way, often it’s cringeworthy, but it almost always leads to me remixing a few things that were worthwhile efforts, mixed in a hurry. Yes,, occasionally

Not directed at ANYONE, but with sample based music, as soon as somebody starts with “I always” they have lost me. I change mic positions all the time, depending on how it is sounding to me as I mix.

Re: Audio to MIDI software that will do drums?

Hmmm…thought I’d posted this, but you might very possibly be able to extract audio stems of the bass and drums from the original recording using lalaai. I tried it, no better than Logic Pro’s stem splitter. These old recordings just don’t separate well because people were in the same room with no se ...

Re: Audio to MIDI software that will do drums?

Difficult to say from a distance, Jay. But yeah, capturing is one-kitpiece-at-a-time thing. (Forgive me for not mentioning that in my earlier post.) I can understand you're not looking forward to 'capturing' entire drumtracks, one kitpiece at a time, from I don't know how many songs. I would also ...

Re: Audio to MIDI software that will do drums?

OK, well clearly I am asking a little too much from the Sonnox Oxford Drum Gate. When I let the entire song play through and select "drag" sometimes it's grayed out, other times it lets me drag it in but it's only five bars long. The manual says"Some hosts do not allow MIDI output from an audio ...

Wow, the Oxford sounds like the ticket at that price. Thanks Piet and Guy. Here is what I am trying to accomplish btw. Does it do a full kit audio file or only kit pieces? If the latter, can you please give it a whirl and let me know how well it does it?

Audio to MIDI software that will do drums?

Melodyne does a really good job turning a bass audio file and many other instruments into MIDI parts but it doesn’t do drums as pitches, just MIDI positions. I asked Celemony and got this reply: “Melodyne is not meant to detect pitches of drums as these a mainly atonal and noisy instruments. This is ...

Re: oops! AudioBro 1, Bill 0

Orchestral musicians are orchestral musicians and samples are samples. One is never going to be able to do everything the other is able to and if you try to compose for them identically, you are always going to be frustrated. I don’t necessarily orchestrate identically even for people who play the s ...

Re: Berlin Solo Strings - Orchestral Tools

Tanuj makes a good point. People become so conditioned to sampled sound that it becomes sought after and the real thing somehow becomes less desirable, and not only for financial reasons. They simply become conditioned to that sound.
