Re: Black Friday Post Mortem - How'd You Do?

I did great! Didn't buy any libraries, but my 6 year old PC gave up the ghost, so I just dropped 2 grand on a brand new custom rig. It's being built at a Micro Center about 5 miles from here, and I pick it up tomorrow. <drool>: Specs are insane. Amd Ryzen 5900x Processor (12 core, 4.8gHz core speed ...

Re: 8Dio Intimate Studio Strings Released

...I've already retired LASS and HS diamond. Excuse the brief tangent, but ooooooh do tell....mind me asking what made it into your template? Berlin? Sure, man, and I'm not saying I have the best string sound by any stretch. The other part (that's taking forever) is that I have to reprogram (or ...

Re: 8Dio Intimate Studio Strings Released

Not interested in the least. The recording is well enough, I suppose, but do I really need another library that I have to play with and learn an obtuse GUI, and try and figure out how to make it sound musically appropriate? And, sonic wise, there's (once again) this hollow boxiness which I keep ...

Re: Orchestral Tools / Time Macro

My first instinct is, time stretched/time machine ostinatos, phrases, and swells. Which can be interesting. If they can not time-compress the release tails/room tails (Spitifre had a problem with that with Albion One, I believe).

Interesting!

Re: Presonus Livestream May 22 (almost surely Studio One 4)

Oooo, I'm in the middle of learning Studio One Ver 3.5 (Just wrote several cues for some game companies with it), and so far, I'm quite impressed with it. For library and video game music, it's REALLY good. I finally retired Sound Forge (8? 9?) because S1 has great mastering workflow and re ...

Re: Sonar - Now available as Cakewalk by Bandlab and free of charge

What?!!?/ Dammit... I just dropped coin last year as an early Adopter for Cakewalk... then just paid for DP 9.5 crossgrade. Sometimes, I hate this DAW industry... :P There's no way I'm going back to Sonar; I just finished installing my new rig today; am imaging/backing it up this afternoon, then ...

Re: Cakewalk rescued from Gibson by BandLab

Conceptually, I think it's great. But speaking as a composer who really needs to invest in a DAW that feels properly backed by a healthy, stable, company with its' finger on the pulse of the digital composer industry... sorry, Cakewalk, that ship has sailed for me. I reinvested my time with Digital ...

Re: What's up in the world of cinematic percussion? Looking for specific recommendation...

I have all those.... I find HZ to be the most useful and Drums of War to be the least useful... not surprising, I guess you get what you pay for? I do like DOW but I kept consolidating until now it's just stacked up as one giant patch in my template. The different mics in HZ sound drastically ...

Re: Impact Sound Works / 'Django' Gypsy Jazz Guitar

Bit of a change of topic, but also check out Craig's album, Outside In. It's a great groove jazz album, my wife and I put it on when we go out to the porch for the afternoon relaxation. It's a great album to unwind to.

Re: Impact Sound Works / 'Django' Gypsy Jazz Guitar

I'm torn. I'm great friends with both Craig and Andrew. As a friend of Andrew, I'm always impressed with his company's offerings, and his latest is a really strong VST sample lib that can really put down a good rendition of gypsy jazz (no mean feat). However, I've also (skype) jammed with Craig ...

Re: Boulez-Requiescat in Pace

Oh, that is so sad. I loved his conducting of Ravel's Daphnis and Chloe, as well as his conducting of Stravinsky's Firebird. He had such an ear for orchestral clarity, and intonation. He made those pieces open and transparent. Rest in Peace, Boulez, may you find great music in your next journey.
