Re: $100 off Nugen plugins for filling in a survey
Piet and Guy, appreciate both of your inputs, thank you! An understandable shame about the $100 minimum. I currently have the free, non-pro Basslane, which is probably sufficient for much of what I’d need Monofilter for. Plus, after some more thinking, I’d rather save for the pro version instead. No...

Re: $100 off Nugen plugins for filling in a survey
Any thoughts on Monofilter? Seems potentially worth the risk at $29.

Re: Soundpaint 2.0 new legato engine, tenor sax and alto flute
Correct! I don't own either 8DIO's or SA's offerings for exactly the reasons I stated, although I'll stress that this isn't a decision based solely on the official demos, but also every piece of user media I've come across.

Re: Soundpaint 2.0 new legato engine, tenor sax and alto flute
I think I know now why this doesn’t convince me, and neither do the Straight Ahead Samples libraries convince me; each note is a performance, but they’re all different performances. Yes, individually each note sounds much better than the traditional approach to sampling, but the intention behind eac...

Re: iZotope Ozone 10
All I can say is that I am increasingly grateful that I have chosen to move away from Ozone for mastering duties. I was never completely satisfied with the results there anyways, and this just puts the final nail in. The best part of Ozone’s draw for me was that it was a self contained app that requ...

Re: TC Electronic Sale: Master X HD-DT and Brickwall HD-DT
Anders and Piet, I appreciate the insight and advice! Decided to take the plunge. Piet, I had not looked deeply into DMG Audio before, despite hearing their name tossed about every so often. Decided to check them out, as - historically - your tastes in sound line up pretty well with mine most of the...

Re: Soniccouture / Sun Drums
Thank you, Piet! A very helpful and thorough breakdown. I’ll most likely have to pick this up before the intro price ends, then, as that punch is just too lovely, would perfectly fit a current project, and I lack the drum mixing chops as of yet to get close on my own (though I’m getting ever closer,...

Re: Soniccouture / Sun Drums
Piet, did you end up with a copy of Sun Drums? If so - or anyone for that matter - how does this compare in utility to HandHeldSound’s RocknFunk kit? The difference in velocity layers is striking, and I’m hearing a very tight, punchy quality in Sun Drums that I haven’t quite eked out of HHS’ offerin...

Re: Incoming / Straight Ahead "La Clarinette En Rose"
I really, really want to love each of these instruments, but they hit right square in the uncanny valley for me. They are no doubt some of the leading sample-based libraries for these styles of writing, but - as we reach ever closer to realism - I can't shake the feeling of 'almost.'

Re: Audiobro LASS 3
The auto-divisi has a short, but settable, window to determine if the notes are meant to be legato, disconnected, or chords. My guess is overlap caused the auto-divisi to kick in. If using this, I usually opt to hold the sustain pedal down and play as staccato as possible. The sustain pedal automati...

Re: Audiobro LASS 3
Sounds like auto divisi was still active in the faster passage? Or the humanization on the Ensemble page might be adding too much blur. Or it might be outside the bounds of the auto scripting. I definitely agree that, sometimes, you just need to set it where you want it. I’ve had some good luck with...

Re: Audiobro LASS 3
Hey Jaap and Guy, I was involved with beta testing for LASS 3, so if you have any questions about it I’m happy to answer. As for the NKIs, not only do you still have access to your LASS 2.5 files, but LASS 3 also includes the complete 2.5 Full package in a legacy folder as well. Thought I’d throw a ...

Re: Wavesfactory Quantum - Transient Shaper
Piet, my deepest gratitude for your fantastically deep explanations here. As it just so happens I have been frustrated with a current project due to some of the exact issues you’ve mentioned having ameliorated with transient shaping. Not to mention, despite having worked with Logic for over a decade...

Re: Wavesfactory Quantum - Transient Shaper
Not saying that you absolutely should, Duncan, but I heartily recommend doing so anyway. Transient shaping is one of the most effective and satisfying ways, I find, to bring back some energy, life, snap, zip and punch to dead samples. I use them on everything. Literally everything. Orchestral instr...

Hadn’t yet seen this mentioned: https://youtu.be/TlVRLnsGbhw “Quantum is an audio plugin that separates an audio signal into its attack and sustain parts. With 16 built-in high quality effects that you can apply to each path independently. Quantum redefines what's possible in transient shaping.” htt...

Re: ProjectSAM: Adaptive Runs, plus updates to Animator and Orchestrator
Yes sadly it's just major and minor, the only exception is that there are chromatic runs available for trumpet only. By way of some compensation, one thing you can do is shorten (and lengthen) to just a few notes, which is something my other run libraries can't do, so they're good for smaller flour...

Re: ProjectSAM: Adaptive Runs, plus updates to Animator and Orchestrator
Any thoughts on how the forthcoming Adaptive Runs would compare with similar existing products? I love that it’s tempo synced and offered continuous ups/downs, but I’m not so pleased that it’s relegated to just major and minor scales.

Re: Spitfire Audio: The Ton 4 day deal
Hi Mark, Orchestral Swarm is one of the few Spitfire libraries I own, but I have to say it’s really effective. I wouldn’t even call it niche, as several of the less pointillistic patches are great layering tools. Hollow flutes? Layer with strings! It’s a great coloring tool IMO.
